rule of thumb is to double the cost of your plate..but since a groomsman is closer to the people getting married i'd say to put it in more

i think that is fine.. honestly just do what you can afford. I am sure that couple will appreciate that amount anyway.

If thats the case than $350 is enough..but if its ith a guest I'd try to give a little more.

I really don't like these questions. I got different amounts from different people and am completely okay with whatever amount of $$ I got. One of my BMs told me ahead of time that since she was coming in from the West Coast and she had to buy a dress, get hair done, etc. that she wouldn't be able to get me a gift. I was 100% okay with that--I chose her because I love her and wanted her at my side at my wedding--not because I wanted a really nice gift.
I would say pay what you are comfortable with, and what is comfortable in your budget.

Give what you can. I think that 350 is more than enough and the couple will appreciate that amount.

we didnt get anywhere close to that from any of our groomsmen. however, one of my bridesmaids was extremely generous, and gave us more than that just from herself (she didnt bring a date).
there's a big range, give what you feel comfortable with but i'd make sure to include a personal card.

It is customary to cover your plate, but times are hard now so do what you can. I personally think that is more than enough considering the fact you have to pay for your attire and other personal things for the wedding. Don't over extend yourself

I try to 'cover my plate'...but do you really know what people are paying? And sometimes they are paying outrageous amounts...which isnt necessarily your porblem...or responsibility to cover. I've give $400 for weddings in which I have been in the wedding party...except my sister...gave her more. But I also think $350 is a generous gift

Does this apply when you're a BM? I only ask because obviously being part of a bridal party as a BM is way more expensive than being a GM(dress, hair, makeup, shoes, shower & bachelorette)...I usually give around the same amount as your post, i'm just wondering if there is a difference based on BM or GM?
What do you guys think?

I;m not really sure. I just kind of figure that if you are in the wedding...the person must be closer to you than the average friend...so I give as much as I can. I've also consulted with other friends...and it seems we all give the same. FH has only been in one wedding...and he wasnt close with the guy at all...and we didnt even knwo why he was asked...so we didnt go above and beyond on the gift.
