how much is too much

i finally found a dress! but.. it's just way too much money! the attendant told me to try it on just to see the cap sleeves.. i just fell i LOVE with it.. i can probably get a similar dress for cheaper.. i just had NO intention of spending this amount of money on my dress.. did anyone else have the same problem? can anyone tell me around how much they spent?? is it worth to splurge!?

I spent 600 for my dress because I bought the sample from a trunk sale.

Woot woot for sample sales!! Got mine at the Priscilla of Boston sale but that was kind of different because they were closing. But I totally think sample sales are worth it.

Sample sales, totally!! Maybe if you now have an idea of what you want, you will find a similar at a sample? Or just the Kleinfeld blowout sale? I'm SO happy I saved a lot on my dress, I stayed right at around what I wanted to spend because when I look at the bill for photography I could cry lol No it's totally reasonable but there really are lots to be found on sale if you are willing to work for it and dig through dresses! I also lucked out at Priscilla of Boston but I knew already what type of dress I wanted and luckily it looked great in person.

i spent $1300 and I'm okay with it. I would have preferred lower, but I had set a $1500 budget and since I didn't go over it, I'm okay.

my grandmother paid for my dress but i had originally set my dress budget for $3000 - since she paid, i was able to go over

i agree with the other girls though - call around with the style number and see if there are any stores that have that gown and are willing to sell you the sample

good luck

It depends on your budget, and what you're willing to spend. Mine was $725 and it wasn't a sample. It's your day, if you are willing to spend thousands and it's in your budget, then I say go for it. That wasn't in my budget, and it was important for me to stick to that. I was still able to find a beautiful dress! Def call around to get prices elsewhere..that's what I did. Good luck!

I guess I should mention my sample was just over 1 thousand, but that's around what I would have expected and for the type of dress I wanted, the retail price was 5k! Something similar at Kleinfeld's would probably have gone for that much if I bought it brand new, not on sale.

My dress, veil, headpiece, and shoes came out to 1500. I refused to let my parents spend a lot of money.

I think it all depends on you. $1000 is a decent amount and then add on alterations. I know PLENTY of ppl who have spent more than that. My dress was slightly more than that. I say it all depends on you bc my dress was worth every penny, it looks nothing like anyone elses. In my opinion if you're doing a basic sparkly strapless A-Line then shop around, but if the dress you found is a bit more unique to your personality and distinctly different from the others around right now, that everyone seems to be getting, then spend the extra if its not gonna break your bank.

Ok, I may be the only one going out on a limb here but I don't think it's ok to break the bank to buy a dress for one day. I think there are beautiful gowns for every budget and for the level of comfort that you are willing to spend. My dress is a Maggie dress that I bought for less than $1K and I don't think I gave up on anything that I wanted.

Basically, you should do what makes you comfortable. Good Luck

I originally fell in love with a Kenneth Pool dress. I was obsessed but the dress was 5000 before tax and alterations IMO that was just too much to spend on a dress I would be wearing for 10 hours. I continued my search and found a completely different style dress. I am now in love with this dress and it's 1/3 the price! At the end of the day you have to go with your gut.. Try looking other places first and then come back, if you absolutely cannot find anything else you love more then i say go for it! GL!

I think it all depends on your budget. You have to factor the cost of alterations and bustle fee. I ended up spending more then I wanted to but it was only a few hundred bucks more.

My budget for the dress is $1500. I'd like to spend less though. I just can't see myself spending thousands on a dress that I will wear only one day. There are plenty of beautiful dresses where you don't have to spend tons.

Like the other girls said, it all comes down to your budget though. If you can afford something more expensive and you are ok with spending whatever amount it is then go for it.

Well, my budget would be 3k with alterations. I agree with everyone it's all about your budget!

My budget was set for $1500 and I ended up getting my dress for $1200 so I was able to get a custom made bolero and still stayed with-in my budget. Def shop around. There are bridal stores that will have or can get your dress for less! Good Luck!

Re: how much is too much

My total budget for a dress was between $800-$1000. I never had an ideal dress. So I wasn't too picky when trying anything on. I tried on every style and was very open to anything. When I found my dress I knew and it cost me $540. Where I tried my dress on it was $875. I shopped around and I got it for $540. I plan to stay under $1000 including all my bridal accessories. I am a good shopper so if you want find out the name of the dress and FM me and I can search to see if I find that dress for you for cheaper =))

Re: how much is too much

First off, DO NOT try on any more dresses out of your budget. It was really unfair of your consultant to put you in a dress you were priced out of. i had a budget of $4000 and i found a dress i really liked and was able to talk a deal down so it was right at my budget including a hallow to hem and all alterations. I would suggest thinking about what it is you really love about the dress and do a lot more shopping- being sure to tell your consultant the things you really love.

My budget for everything was originally $800 but then I couldn't find anything I loved.
We then budgeted $1500 for the dress and alterations.
I spent about 1k for my dress alone (not including alterations)
