I know the type, size, material, etc, affects price, but if you told someone you'd buy then a coffe table for Christams, at what point would you think they were taking advantage of you & making you buy them something ridiculously over priced?

I think coffee tables range in price... anywhere from $200 - $1500. I saw a great table I really liked but it was about $800 at Ethan Allen and I figured I should keep looking.

hmmm, that's what I thought. There is one I like that is also $800. I think that's alot, but I didn't knwo if I wa soff base. I soem at Levitz & Semans that were in the $250-4350 range, but none I was crazy about. My in-laws are buying as one for Christmas, & I don't want to pick out someting way over priced.

If you have other things to order try an order from North Carolina.
I've used Black's Furniture (www.blacksfurniture.com) in North Carolina for my dining room set and they were great. I found some other stuff I would like to order like a mirror ( a 40' round that I keep seeing here for $699 for about $250). I am also looking for other things too like living room tables so once I pick some more stuff out I will just place another order. It worth it if you are ordering more items than paying shipping for just one item.

We are on a desperate search for a new coffee table. I'm not willing to pay more than $300, which is making it pretty difficult to find solid hardwood of a timeless yet stylish design...
But for less frugal types, a coffee table is something you could have for eternity so maybe $800 isn't too bad.

That's not my style, but if you like modern, its a nicee table. Where did you see it? i feel liek I've seen a lot of metal,/glass tables in my search.
I found a new one to lust over, but it is still too expensive.
$529 from Ethan Allen.
This is the first one I loved, but no I like the other one better. This is $799 fro Roomandboard.com, I saw it in Better Homes & gardens.

I am thinking of going with a bench as a table instead--
more reasosnable, but I am anot sure if it is too plain: this is from Pottery barn. 4199 for the medium, $249 for the large.
I will check out Blacks furniture, but since this is a gift, I think it is the only thing we are ordering right now.

tourist, the second one you posted is almost exactly what I'm looking for - dark wood, simple lines, a little bit of storage. But !!
I haven't yet been able to find anything in that style in my (very very meager) price range.
Their Painters Shed collection has some benches as PP mentioned.
I like the new Urban View collection, I don't think the name fits it doesn't seem 'urban' to me though.
only problem is their site has no prices!
Thanks! I like the Painters Shed collection & the Yorkshire Market collection. I guess they don't have prices because they don't sell direct. It depends on the store.

Ohhh..When we were looking for furniture, I remember Value City Furniture having a great selection of coffee tables for good prices..bet $200 - $300 price range...
I just couldn't find one that fit the measurements I was looking for...We needed something square and small..

Never mind girls, I called the # on the Broyhill website, and I found out the price: only $249! But it is discontinued, so if you are interested, you will have to go soon!

We got ours at the Bombay outlet..There is also a Pottery Barn outlet in Riverhead..I would check them out
