How much is too much? - Reagen Funeral

How is Nancy Reagen coping with all this? I know that he was a public figure and you need to allow the public time to say'farewell', but a whole week of this?

FH said the same thing. I totally agree. I'm sorry he's gone, but hey- he was 93 and its a natural part of life. Isn't there anything else going on in the world?

true but what's the big deal? why does it bother you? he was the leader of the US for 8 years....don't ya think the man could get a little recognition?

i think it's too much, especially since they pre-empted price is right :(

it bothers me because I can't watch the news. All they are doing is reporting on the funeral arrangements. I want to know what else is going in the world.

I disagree. We have not seen in our generation a presidential funeral and I know I sorely needed to witness this week. Whether or not you agreed with the politics, I feel like the world was so different back then and a week is not too much time to remember it and reflect.

I agree with you. I think that people's politics are influencing their thoughts on this. If it were Bill Clinton's funeral, not sure we'd be hearing 'it's too much' from a lot of people on this board.

uh-oh, here we go, i feel controversy brewing

politics has nothing to do with it -- it's just oversaturation and i would say that if it was anyone

You may be right. Don't want to start controversy again!!!

I think it seems like more then it is since he died Saturday and the funeral is 6 days later.

But the the actual viewing & funeral has only been a couple of days and the fact that 100's of thousands of citizens have waited on tremedous lines plus all the heads of state that have come to pay their respect is an indication to me that it's not too much.

I think it is heartbreaking to see Nancy Reagen mourning and saying good bye to her husband of 50+ years. I hope she is getting comfort from the fact that her husband affected so many people in his life that they are reaching out now.

I agree. It has nothing to do with politics. I think the news spending one week on a story with no new *news* is a bit much! It has nothing to do with who it is. But he has passed away. we reflected on his life for a few days. Do you know what else happened in the world the last week? I don't really. Everytime i turn on the news its about Reagan. I remember Regan. I remember when he was elected, twice. I remember watching his innaguration. But enough is enough.

I agree with you a 100% I was going to drive to DC to wait on line. But w/ a son who's almost 3 that wouldn't of been easy. I thought today was just heart breaking!! I'm glad he's at peace!!

This is not unique, it's just that it's the first big National funeral in quite some time. There have been many other deaths and events that dominated the news - JFK and Robert Kennedy (Robert had a funeral train that crossed the country), Princess Diana, and JFK Jr, and don't forget how the OJ car chase, investigation and trial dominated the news. Nixon chose to have a less public funeral in keeping with his Quaker background.
