How is Nancy Reagen coping with all this? I know that he was a public figure and you need to allow the public time to say'farewell', but a whole week of this?

sorry to interrupt your tv shows - he only ran the country for 8 years. i don't feel like its too much at all - they wanted to let everyone came & pay last repects.

It entirely too long. My views are probably due to his racism though.

Let's forget about the public for a second. Do you think at some point it becomes a burden to the family?

he didn't have a state funeral...
my view is that it is fine to go through the formalities and for people to pay their respects, but ALL the networks covering it ALL the time i think is a bit too much. after the first day, it's basically the same sound bites over and over again - to me, rather superficial...

Wasn't Martin Luther King's birthday declared a national holiday by Reagan?

President Reagan and his family planned much of this before his illness and Nancy had a strong hand in the planning, down to the request that during the motorcade to the capitol there be no commentary on the TV broadcasts. While they may be tired, I would think it's a comfort more than a burden.

I have refused to watch it. I think it is disgusting to parade around a dead body, no matter who it is. Plenty of people die everyday and it goes unnoticed. Okay, enuff of my rant.

I can't get enough...everytime they show clips of his presidency i am reminded of my childhood....I think he was an amazing man that deserves the attention and the respect that he is recieving... And to be honest nothing is new in the news...so who cares if a week goes by without hearing about the crap that goes on these days...

I think It was very nice but after seeing his funeral.. I was crying first of all and I felt so bad for her. All you could hear was the camera snapping... And the Camera in her face. It looked like she almost fell down the stairs. I really hope they give her some private time.

He was a very respected man especially for having the courage that others are/were missing.

I dont' think the actual funeral, viewing in CA, then flying to DC and back to CA is 'too much'. After all he was governor in CA, President of US..it's actually nice that people respected him so much (even after the Iran Contra affair) that they did this. However it's the MEDIA that is hyping it up. I mean why does every freakin channel have to have it on?
Even Tom Brokaw (I think) said the media was hyping it up too much.

I can't help but wonder if he'd say the same if it was Clinton. The mainstream media today is not unbiased and heavily lean to the left.
Katie Couric asked, as mourners were coming into the national cathedral, if Reagan's death would boost George Bush's campaign. Totally inappropriate timing, and an implication that his campaign would try to profit from the death. An unbiased version of the same question would have been 'What sort of affect will President Reagan's death have on the current presidential campaigns?'
Besides, if people were not tuning in you can bet the coverage would be less - ratings rule and if the overnight Neilson ratings showed no one was watching I'm sure they would have cut back on coverage. Just look at how many people turned out to pay respects at the library and in DC, and how many lined the routes of the processions transferring the casket - a lot of the nation wanted this opportunity.
