How much maternity leave does your company give you?

Just wondering!

My company gives 3 months time off. I'm not sure if it's paid or not.

Where are you doing your residency? My FH is PGY-3 right now.
I know they only give 4 months for vaginal birth and 6 wks for C-sect in his hospital.
Not for him, but if he was a female that is

Under the FMLA, you're entitled to take 12 weeks leave. However, this does not guarantee paid leave. Most companies give a certain amount paid and then allow the employee to opt to take the rest of the leave unpaid if they wish. I don't believe the FLMA covers smaller companies, though. I can't see it not applying to hospitals.

My company gives 4 weeks paid. I believe it applies to fathers as well.

FH is on pediatric surgery rotation now. He told me I am very naive when it comes to taking care of children.

I hate getting my hands dirty so I want him to change all the diapers and do all the dirty work. I want him to be there next to me for the first few months.

Wishful thinking...

Fat chance!! Especially being a Dr! I barely even see FH, but that'll all change once he's an attending.

Wow! So nice to know you've got FI's in the medical field! Imagine how hard it is to plan a wedding and graduate from Medical school! I'm graduating in april and the wedding is in June.
I'm starting PGY-1 in July in internal medicine.

Where do your FI's work?

FH is at Yale.

He said that all residents who have babies in the last year of residency fail their licensing exam.

Is this true?

Or maybe he just doesn't want to have kids....yet.

Hehehehe, he's a funny one. I dont' think it's a rule that baby=failure but it's definitely very distracting. I'm planning on having it in my last year b/c your shedule is more relaxed.

My company gives 8 weeks paid off....but everyone here takes a full 6 months off - the rest is just unpaid. No one comes back before their 6 months is up.

We are having a baby in March (wedding in June - yes, I am insane.)

My company is giving me 8 weeks paid. I am entitled to 12 weeks under Family Medical Leave Act. (The wedding wlll be week 11.) However, they ARE allowed to force to me take my vacation time after the 8 weeks. So I'll take my 2 weeks vacation and get paid for those & then do 2 weeks unpaid thru FLMA for a total of 12 weeks off.

With the FMLA, I get 12 weeks total without the risk of being fired. After 12 weeks, your job is no longer safe. You can legally be replaced, demoted or fired.
