How much should I give?

Original post by divabride

I was just talking to FI and I asked him how much we are going to give to a couple getting married next month at Villa lombardis. He said $150. He is in the wedding party and the groom is my FI's best man. I think we should give a little bit more - like $250. Not that $250 is a lot either, but we have our own wedding we are stuggling to pay. What do you guys think?

I agree $250 if not more...you will most likely get back whatever you give...

I agree

$250 for sure....

FH and I always try to cover our plates. I am sure your friends will understand. The bottom line is you do what you can. Don't feel bad if you can't.

i say give whatever you can - don't worry about what they're paying, or what they will be giving you at your wedding.
and just because he is in the bridal party doesn't mean he has to give an extra large gift - i had people in my brial party give from $50 to $1000....it's not about how much you give - it's about the day and the fact that you're there to celebrate with them!

Because this is your fi's BEST MAN, I say go with the $300. UNLESS, this guy gave your fi grief over anything during your planning process...

I would give $300 because its his best friend, even $250 sounds good.

I think your amount would be more appropriate.

I agree with you 250 is a good gift

I agree- If it is really a hit financially -go for the $200 but I wouldn't give less.

I was brought up to believe you should give at least enough to cover each plate, which I know in some cases is impossible to do. I always try to do that, or as close as I can get. I am getting married at Villa Lombardi's on a Sunday night in July and $250 would just cover two people.

I don't feel that it is NECESSARY to cover each plate (this is just what I CHOOSE to do) - you must do what you can AFFORD!

(Why go crazy like me trying to afford too much because of a guilyt conscience that I was raised with )

My friends and I have all agreed to give $300 to each other when we get married.. I would say 250 to give you will probably get it back when you get married think of it that way and since FH is in the wedding, I would give that amount

250 is more than enough. Someone just posted that their wedding is in 05 and 250 would just cover two people so obviously the couple you know booked their wedding well before this year so 250 would more than enough to cover your plates.

i agree with $250-$300, especially if they are great friends, you'll probably get it right back at your wedding.

I agree with Lori - anything you give will be really appreciated! $150, $250, it doesn't matter. The bride & groom will be thrilled to have you be a part of their day.

They more then anyone understands the financial position you are in since they were just in your shoes.

If it were up to me I would give $300, but I know my FI will have a cow if I even mention it. So I figured I'd be safe with $250. I feel bad though, because I know they are paying about $140 p/p

I agree with you. I always feel when my fw and i go to a wedding we should cover the cost of the plate pp.

i would not feel bad i am paying more then $140 and don't expect to get that back from people in my wedding party or guests.
i think $250 is perfect

i feel you should always give enough to cover your plate. originally i would have said 250. .now i have to say 300
