TIA!

Re: How much should you $pend on THE dress???
I think it totally depends on the person and her budget. All of the gown that I had picked out of magazines or online were in one price range, but the gown that I'm actually getting is in a different one.

I agree!! I spent more than I wanted , but I love my dress and that is what matters!

Re: How much should you $pend on THE dress???
I dont think that there is an amount that people should spend on their dresses. I think that the amount that a person spends is determined by their budgets. I know brides that have spent 100k on their weddings and bought a dress for $1600- then there are other brides who had weddings for 20k and spent 3k on their dresses. I spent what I thought I was going to on my dress. The type of dress that I wanted cost more then 1k- so for me the price was within my budget and right for me.

I think that people should buy the dress that 'is the one'. Many times brides get lucky and find a dress that is within their price range, and other times they have to make adjustments to their budget in order get the dress they want.

You should spend whatever you feel comfortable with. I set a budget and my dress was 1/2 cost I planned on spending.

I set a budget and that went out the window once I stepped into THE DRESS lol You really need to just have a ballpark figure and stay around that number. Good luck!!!

I think it depends on the person and their budget. My budget was $2k...my dress was $1100.

I was willing to spend $2k, and found my dress for $650 or so. With alterations, i spent around $800.

Re: How much should you $pend on THE dress???
I spent over 5k bc I loved the quality and felt it was worth every penny.
It is a Monique Lhuillier dress and you can tell that it is a pricey gown, actually looks a lot more expensive then what I paid for it
I live at home, don't drive, I work fulltime, and no college loans for me the gown price was not a big thing bc I can pay it off right away.
i did start taking the subway to save $$

With the exception the occasional extravagant dress, I think it is pretty hard to tell whether someone is wearing a 1500 vs 5500 dress lol

I agree that there's no set amount on your gown-most important, besides you loving it, is that it's within reason to your finances. I spent $$ on my gown, but 80% of it is paid off because I put a big deposit on it with my annual bonus check. It never broke the bank.
It would have been really easy to spend more, I'm actually shocked at the level of control I had staying in the price range.
I think to each his own though-I don't believe in the whole 'your dress is 10% of your wedding budget'.. I think that it shouldn't be MORE than 10%.
My dress is 5% of total budget.

Re: How much should you $pend on THE dress???
When I went shopping for dresses, I didn't really have a budget set. I was trying to find 'the one', and then I was going to worry about the price.
It turned out the dress I fell in love with was $1300.
I was very lucky to find a dress that I love and for under $1500.

My budget was $3k but I wound up paying about half for my gown, before alterations. I haven't gotten it altered yet, but I'm guessing the grand total will be around $2k.

Re: How much should you $pend on THE dress???
I am fortunate enough that my mother is paying for my dress. She told me I didn't have a budget so I looked at gowns ranging from $1000 all the way to $15,000 (don't worry didn't even come close to this!) I bought what I felt comfortable with. When I found 'the one' we didn't even know the price, my mother just looked at me and said 'this is it, we will take it' We bought what just looked amazing on me, I feel like a queen in that dress! So I think you should get whatever you feel comfortable in....and comfortable is key!

My budget was 2K but I got it for 1K . Once you find the dress, I would suggest calling different stores to get their prices. The 1st dress I liked was $1900 in one store and $1400 in another.

Re: How much should you $pend on THE dress???
Honestly, I can't see myself forking over 1K for a dress that I'm going to wear one day esp the aftermath of dealing with the dress after the wedding. I had a replica made of this dress I loved, it was a Eve of Milady strapless ballgown with gold embroidery from a 06 collection and it was gorgeous! The quote for the dress was 2K. The replica cost under $400 (alterations- $60-$70 for shortening the hem) and I also brought another dress to change for the reception- a beautiful Isaac Mizrahi's strapless sateen sheath dress in opal cream with a brown silk faille sash for under $200 (alterations to hem $40-$50). Altogether, my dresses for both ceremony & reception cost under $800 incl. alterations. I was able to use the money that I saved towards important things- caterers, decor, florists, etc. You'll be surprised and amazed by a lot of the vendors on Ebay that makes the same exact model of the dress, the only difference is the label. It's really important esp now to put the money towards other things since it's one day. To the ladies that can, more power to you.
