i just went on a 12 night cruise, Celebrity So much fun!!!! I made FH bring 3500. We do not drink at all. I bought one martini on the whole trip. We spent alot of time in the spa. also we did not go to the casino at all. We did shore excursions like the dolphin swin and jet skis. We came home with a few hundred.

Last time we went on a cruise was 3 years ago and we brought $1500-we actually came home with $1500 because we won at the casino and that paid for everything.

I would say around 150 per day. You might use it then again you may not. It really depends on your excursions and if you really dont drink then u will save ALOT of money. What cruise line are you taking? The cruise line should have a website where you can pre book your exursions..this way you wont have to wait online or get denied because its maxed out!! You can see how much everything costs and how long they are and when they start,,, so you can plan your day...I highly recommend the dolphins!! OMG and tape it..its amazing. On a cruise its about 7 dollars a drink. If you have anymore questions FM me... have fun on your cruise...I love cruising!! Especially if its out of NYC>> its sooo convenient!

You don't need actual cash for the casinos. Your room key is like your charge card. You use your room key to get cash at the casino and for anything you buy on the ship. (At least everyone I've known to go on a cruise has had it like this, call your cruiseline to see) You need spending money for when you get off the ship. Everything on the ship gets charged to the credit card you sign up for.

As for tips, we were able to prepay our tips before getting on the ship. Then you can add more money at the end if you choose so. Check out your FAQ on your ship website.

usually you dont need to bring a lot of cash. you get a card that charges everything to your room and you pay the bill at the end. you will prob know how much you need for tips and excursions before you board, so that should help in setting money aside to pay the bill. you need cash for anything you buy off the boat.

we went on a short cruise for our hm (i have a son and i didn't want to be away longer than that). we only spent cash during our excursions because we wanted to buy trinkets to bring home and because we had two meals away from the excursions.

i think we spent a totoal of $1500 cash. everything else was on our 'room key'

It depends on what you want to do. All excursions we did were pre-purchased and everything we did on the boat was charged back to the room (which was nice because you didn't have to carry around money but, at the same time, you don't realize how much you are spending). On the cruiseline's website, they should have a guide for how much and who to tip so you can figure that out before you go.

If you shop off the boat, you can use credit cards, we only really used cash for things like taxi trips if we wanted to go somewhere or drinks if we were on the beach not part of an excursion.

You wont need much cash until the last day if that is how you chose to pay. Everything on the ship is charged on to your room key 'sign & sail'. You should check it each day to make sure it is accurate though.
As far as tipping, Carnival and Norwegian now automatically add on the tipping and charge it to your room. It isnt much at all, considering how hard the staff works.

on the cruise itself you can only use cash in the casino (from the ones ive been on)
when you start boarding or actually at check in, you have to provide a credit or debit card that is linked to your cruise card. all purchases on the cruise will be paid for with that card

FH & I went on 2 cruises (each 7 days) we brought about 2k on each trip and we only used our cash for when we were in the islands or when we tipped staff.

You don't need to take a lot of cash, except to spend when you are off the boat and on the island.

You charge everything to your room when you are on the boat and also charge the excursions to the room so you really don't need to bring a lot of cash.

I personally don't do a lot of shopping when I'm cruising and even if you do, you'll probably charge higher end items so you basically only need money for cheap market shopping.

I'd take $1000 in cash and charge everything else.
