How much thought are you putting into Bridesmaid dresses?
This may be a ridiculous question for some... IDK.
Here are my thoughts/questions:
If you're wearing a satin dress are your BM dresses satin?
If your dress is strapless are you choosing a dress with straps, halter, etc?
So my questions are, I guess, are you differentiating your dress style from the BM dresses?
Do you prefer short to long for any special reason?
I've always wanted chiffon BM dresses, and my dress is satin and has lace on it, but I occasionally see a nice satin one- pretty sure im still going to go with chiffon- but im wondering how everyone is going about picking these out. Is it random, you see it and you like it, is what you always envisioned (like me & chiffon), or is more thought based on (like a nice contrast from your dress)???

I haven't compared the BM's dress to my own in terms of having them be different. I think they could practically look the same but people wouldn't get it!
As far as the style, I was so set on satin but my girls tried a few on and really looked good in the Chiffon. Problem is, in some of the photos we took the satin just looked better. Granted this was amateur photography, but I want my girls to look their best too. We'll probably go out searching again at the end of summer.

Not a strange question at all! I was worried about this originally but I realized that my girls are all different shapes and sizes so I mostly just want them to feel good and comfortable in the dress they wear.

Both of my ladies are tall and slim so the chiffon fitting wont be an issue, It is interesting to hear about the way they photograph though, never thought of that. Thx!

My dress is satin and my bm dresses are chiffon. I Love chiffon dresses and I always knew I wanted them for my BMs

Some of my friends talk about how my BM dresses should be the complete opposite of what I am wearing. I don't care. For me I just want something comfortable that they can dance in.

Nah, mostly I just care that they're comfortable. The only thing I really want is short.

I'm most likely purchasing a dress that has one shoulder, and the BM dress that we're all in love with has one shoulder and I could care less that it would be the same as me...the MOH will be different though

I did not put a lot of thought into it all. I know the color that I wanted and I knew that I wanted to have a long dress for them.
Basically what I did was brought them all to the store and told them to pick any dresses that they like and then they would all try them on and start to narrow it from there. I wanted them all to love their dress and not have me just tell them what to wear.

Just be careful if the chiffon you get is light colored......My BFF's wedding we sprayed perfume and it made little dots were on the dress and we thought the bridal place messed up the dresses. Turns out anything showed on teh dresses--- you should have seen the pit stains on some of the girls.

The girls will be picking their own dresses. I am choosing the color, length and material but other than that they are pickign the style of their dresses.

My only thought is the color. I'm telling my gals that I would really love the dress to be in a navy blue and then pretty much let them choose from there. I want them to be comfortable in what they're wearing.

I will pick the color and know that I want short dresses (July heat!). The shape and style is up to them once they try them on. I am fortunate that all my girls are small, except one larger busted BM.

im undecided on what color pink to put the girls in. So i guess my BM dress decision will be based on the color and have them pick which style they feel more comfortable in.

I want them in short because that's how i've imagined it. Everything else is flexible. I just want them to look and feel good.

I dont think it will matter what type of dress they wear.. your the bride everyone will know that
I picked black bc why make them spend money on a dress they most likely wont wear again. Atleast with black they can and im also letting them pick out the style they want - whether its different or their wearing all the same style.

Thanks for all the responses!!! The dress styles I'm looking at are in an album. The color is grey, but it's also good to hear about sweat stains since we will all be dancing our butts off! It seems like a lot of you are just playing it by ear with your ladies once you get there. I don't think any of the styles I love are uncomfortable or hard to dance in at all but we'll see how it goes once they try them on. My ladies are easy too, style wise, one had only one request, that she be able to wear a good bra so her girls are supported while dancing around! Also, I feel like the charcoal grey is kinda like the black thing, you can wear it again to other places. I'm hoping these are comfortable & pretty enough that they'd want to wear them again. But it's all good too if they don't wanna!

Satin...chiffon...these are all new terms to me. What's the difference?
I only have MOH so when I finally go and look at dresses for her, I will be looking mostly for our color scheme, comfort, what looks best on her and how it ties into the theme of my wedding
