How much to give FBIL??

How much to give FBIL??

FBIL and FSIL are getting married this weekend... we are kind of stumped as to how much to give them for a gift. When FH's older brother got married they had a small backyard wedding.... this wedding will be much larger and at the Woodbury Country Club... Normally we give about $200, what do you think would be appropriate for his brother? He is asking his other brothers as well, but I figured I would ask you guys too! You're the wedding pros!!!

I think the amount is less important than the love it comes with. Is there something special in that price range they might need -- toasting flutes or a special something on their honeymoon -- like if they are staying at a resort prepaying a pair of massages for them? Alternately, are they furnishing a new home -- perhaps something special so that they can be reminded of it every day?

i think it depends. Are they well off? or are they trying to buy a home? i love sentimental gifts, but definately would rather have the money right now. on average (for friends, not fam) we usually give at least 250... if theyre trying to start a home, and FH is close with him, i would definately try to go higher,,, though itll probably even out when your wedding comes along anyway. Maybe you guys could just get each other nice cards, and call it even?

We gave FH's cousin who is like his brother $500. We knew they were paying for it and needed the $$ and FH was Best man.

I don't think they are planning to buy a house anytime soon but I feel like we should definetly give more because it is his brother... yet at the same time we don't have a whole lot to give...

Thanks for your help- any other suggestions would be appreciated!!!

I think we gave FBIL $500 in the envelope.
But my FH paid for almost everything re: Bachelor party, hotel rooms for the weekend, tuxes, etc........
You give as much as you can afford to be generous........

Hmm, well, if you usually give like $200, maybe you could give like $300 or $350... a little more for a relative, but not too overboard...

If it were me I'd try to cover the plate plus $100 more. Going to FM u

I would give $500 at the very least.

Always try to give more to family than you would to others. Just think whatever you give, you usually get back
