okay i just wanted to see if i was in the average of gown prices my father bought my gown so i didnt have a real budget and it was more then i thought i would spend but it is being 'created' for me i picked a bottem of one a top of another and material from a third plus added my own special touches....i did get a great discount because my FMIL knew the owner/designer at valentinas really well.... in anycase it is over 6k....but less then 10k

Do you honestly think that 6k-10k is average????? I really doubt that.

i suppose it depends on the population being surveyed.
it's the average in some circles, while $500 is the average in others.

I never met one person in that first circle, but I have met sooooooooo many brides who purchased wonderful gowns in that second circle

I dont think she said it was average. I think she said it was more than she anticipated spending.
I think for most middle class, average long island girls, the $1000 range is more average.

I believe she was checking to see if she was in the average, but anyway I agree with you w/ the 1,000 range.

Re: how much was your gown
at this point its about whether you are happy with it and usually i say if its within your budget but since your dad paid then if your dad was fine with paying that. I spent more than the average, but i didnt second guess myself and was comfortable with that choice. I figured i had over a year to pay it...i dont think someone should spend more than they are comfortable spending so either i say you are fine with this choice and not have to even ask or the other thing is that maybe it should be something to give a little bit more thought to.

'average' is something different to everyone each person on this board bought their dress b/c they fell in love with it. whether it was $100 or $10k price doesn't make the dress what makes the dress is how it makes you feel.
i spent between $100. - $10k on my dress and i'm thrilled with it (depsite my earlier dress rants - PMS)
everyone on here has different circumstances

I refused to spend more than $600 on a dress I'd never, ever wear again and most likely wouldn't be able to sell.
I lucked out with David's Bridal. I would rather put that money towards other things.

i spent way more then above average...i didn't put a budget with my dress. im comfortable with my decision...it's 1 time why not- G*d knows i've spent over 15k in partyin in NYC clubs and traveling in less then a yr -so why not have something to show for it even if i dont wear it again!

Re: how much was your gown
i love my gown and i knew i would be spending what i spent that i am not second guessing i was just courious what the average is....
the cost really does not matter what matters is how you feel when you put it on...
