okay i just wanted to see if i was in the average of gown prices my father bought my gown so i didnt have a real budget and it was more then i thought i would spend but it is being 'created' for me i picked a bottem of one a top of another and material from a third plus added my own special touches....i did get a great discount because my FMIL knew the owner/designer at valentinas really well.... in anycase it is over 6k....but less then 10k

Re: how much was your gown
I just went dress shopping yesterday and fell in love with one that was a bit over my budget, but I'm going for it anyway! It's a bit over $1000, but hopefully the veil and other accessories I choose will counter-balance the price.

Re: how much was your gown
Mine was like 2k--more than I wantd to spend, but I tried on so many dresses and I just fell in love with it--so I guess price didn't matter--esp when we saved on so many other areas

Honestly, I'm not sure what makes a dress worth so much.

Re: how much was your gown
My dress was on the low end of $1,000 - 2,000 but we are having it made with a slightly longer train and adding covered buttons to the back, so it will be closer to the $2000 end when everything is done.
I did go to one bridal shop where all of the dresses were $3,500 - $15,000 ( ) but really just wanted to leave as soon as i saw the prices because I did NOT want to fall in love with a $10k dress.
I'd love to see pictures of the $6,000+ dresses people picked out!

Mine was slightly (about $1,075 minus the tiara, slip, veil) above the 1k mark.. also it was a bit extra because I needed a plus size but it does depend where you buy your gown.

i love my gown and i knew i would be spending what i spent that i am not second guessing i was just courious what the average is....
the cost really does not matter what matters is how you feel when you put it on...
A BRIDE KNOWS HER GOWN....
well if you're happy with it then thats what matters. Others will have opinions about it but the way i see it its my dress and my money not theirs so nobody elses concern
here is what info i found
New York average cost of a wedding gown: $1,250
and here is what else i found when searching under NYC average prices
The same survey showed a 51% increase in the cost for gowns among brides that spend more than $1,500 for a wedding dress. The average upscale dress cost $2,637 last year compared with $1,750 in 1990.

I had anticipated spending around $1000-$2000 but had hoped that I would find a dress for even less I ended up trying on 5 or 6 dresses that were in that price range and then the Bridal consultant brought out another one for me to try. I assumed that it was in the same price range of all the other ones and just tried it on. Of course, that was the one I fell in love with and it was way over my budget. I ended up spending about $4,000 +

I never met one person in that first circle, but I have met sooooooooo many brides who purchased wonderful gowns in that second circle
lol, i hope i didn't come off as being snobbish. my dress before alterations was less than $1000. Most of my friends, (my circle if you will) spent less than $1000
however, i personally know a lot of brides who spent over $6000 and that was what all their friends spent too.
that's all i meant about average. i think i also got caught up in the fact that i was helping a college student study for their math midterms where population had a lot to do with their answers. sorry

I refused to spend more than $600 on a dress I'd never, ever wear again and most likely wouldn't be able to sell.
I lucked out with David's Bridal. I would rather put that money towards other things.
Same here! My dress was 950 and i got 200 dollars off! cant beat that and my dress is amazing!! Helene

mine was $1274 (my FMIL would kill me for admitting this because it looks like it's worth more)
after hollow to hem measurements and alterations, bustle...it will be at least $1700...then with veil and headpiece figure $2000. I didn't really go in with a budget because I wanted to see what was out there and at what cost before i set my budget...but i knew some of the dresses I liked went for up to 10,000! there was no way I was going to spend that much for 1 days wear. I went to lilletes for my first dress hunting trip found several gorgeous dresses under or around $1,000 I'm happy because I had no idea how I was gonna pull off paying for my own wedding and buying a $3,000 dress (which was my limit as to how high i was willing to go...even though i was hesitant about spending that much) ...everything she showed me was way less than my maxx budget so I lucked out.
honestly I have nothing wrong with spending money if u have it...However, the only reason I wouldn't spend 'alot' of $$ on a dress is because alot of these designers use factories and mark up prices insanely, and it doesn't always mean ur getting better quality or a better product. that same factory could sell it direct for so much less and the only difference would be the designer name not being on it. after working in wholesale and seeing how these factories work...I HATE paying full price or top dollar for anything.
i know of expensive dresses but they are made by machine and in factories, then theres also couture dresses that are 85% made by hand, depends on which designer you use, not all use factories to mark up their prices, but like you said i do know of a few that do this.
Either way i think the only thing that matters is that the person is happy with their dress and how much they spent. I'll be honest and i dont care what others paid, none of my business and its not my choice to live with. And i just happened to quote your post for only one part of what you said so this isnt directed towards you hahahaa...but i see people all the time saying ' i dont understand how ppl can spend that much money and some who even get mad' why does it matter lol is it your money? let ppl do what they want...even if the person can't afford it and will go in debt bc of things again not our problem, its their own problem to deal with.

oh absolutely, I agree with you 100%. I hope they would be getting the best quality for their money...but hey if they got it like that and wouldn't miss the money either way...god bless.
