Across the street from my aunt there is a house that has 2 apts. 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs. My cousin and her husband and their daughter (who I babysit for on mondays) moved in to the downstairs apt. Mike and I are thinking of taking the top floor only for a little while since we are hoping to get a house really soon. Top floor is 3 bedrooms. My cousin will be living downstairs so we will be able to use her washer and dryer and yard and driveway. Just wondering if its a good price or a lot of money? How much would you think this is worth?

WOW! 3 bedrooms? I'd say def. over 1000... where is it located, that might make a difference in my opinion.

It totally depends on where it is located and what the average price for that area is. It's hard to judge real estate in a vacuum.

A really nice area in N. Bellmore (not that there is a bad area of Bellmore)

Hmmm... Bellmore? I'd definitely say 1000 if not more. If you are getting it for less and it's a 3 bedroom, I think that's a good deal!

Re: How much would ypu pay for this apt?
I think it depends on where it is. But I would say offhand (and Im NO expert) but they can ask at least $1200 for 3bedrooms. (and since youre using the washer and dryer and yard and driveway thats a huge plus). But if youre getting 'family & friends' rates, and you get a better price than that, its a STEAL.
My sister had a 3bedroom apt for $950 5 years ago, and didnt have access to the other plusses you have.(and we all thought she got a good price then! When she left they raised it immediately to $1100 or so).
Yes its alot of money that can be saved or that is being 'thrown out the window' unfortunately, but Im just guestimating what I think I would expect the rent to be.
The 6fam home my parents own in Astoria, the apartments are pretty small, 2BR and they get up to $1300 for some of them...
Good luck with your decision

Re: How much would ypu pay for this apt?
I'm going to say a LOT. We pay well over $1000 a month plus electric for the same type of scenario you described, only NO washer/dryer or yard use, and it's only a 2 bedroom. So I'd say that would cost you about $1400 or $1500. I've seen ads in the paper for similar, since we were thinking about moving again... but because everything's so expensive we decided to stay put.
Good luck, if you can get it for cheap, go for it!!!

Re: How much would ypu pay for this apt?
Its less then 1500 but a little more then 1000 I really think its a good price for the area and the size of the apt. And Id live across the street from my aunt and upstairs from my cousin. On monday mornings id only have to run down the stairs to babysit. hmmm......
I lived in Seaford 5+ years ago and we paid $1250 for a 3 BR
and DH and I paid $2K for a 3 BR in N Flushing (ahh the dotcom height!!)
so I think its comparable
