are you asking bm to spend on dresses? I found one for 220 but its also 50 for alterations. already 2 girls complained about the price. Is this asking for too much?

Re: how muchh..
The dresses that we are getting are $170 plus alterations.
I think alot also depends on what else you are asking your BM to do.
I do not think that it is fair to have my BM have to spend over $200 on a dress they will probably never wear again. But that is just me.
I am also just telling them that they can wear whatever shoes they want as long as they are silver. I am also telling my BM that my hair girl can do their hair and makeup but I am not making them do it.
I just think that just because I decided to have a big wedding that it means that they have to spend $300 or $400 dollars!
$220 is not crazy but there are also a lot of dresses that are more reasonable in price.

How many girls are in your BP? Maybe you can pay for alterations as part of the BM gift?
$220 isn't too crazy.

Re: how muchh..
usually people get huffy if they have tyo spend more than $200, but that's a low price for alts, so the extra $20 is just really put somewhere else. I think you are fine.
If they still complain, tell them it could be worse, the last BM dress I bought cost me $400!!!!

it was a custom made 'modest' dress for a religious wedding.

Re: how muchh..
My girls are spending about $200 on the dress, but due to the fact that they have SO MUCH to help pay for, I couldn't possibly ask them pay for much else. Between the shoes, the dress, the alterations, shower, bach party, make up, hair, and travel (because they are OOT), I wouldn't want to ask for much else.

Re: how muchh..
I am in a wedding where the dress was $250 plus alterations. I also has to buy a yard of extra fabric because the dress need to be made a little more modest for my liking. I think that price is normal.
I am doing mix-and-match dresses (same color), and I am paying for them. The first BM's dress we found was $300, but it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and is SO my sister I had to get it. :)

Re: how muchh..
I think it all depends...do you want them to buy specific shoes or can they wear whatever shoes they want? Do you have to pay for your bridal shower or are you having a getaway bach party?
I want my girls to spend around $150 on their dresses, plus alterations. I also want them to all wear specific shoes.

Re: how muchh..
i agree with Mara, just because im getting married doesnt mean that my BM should have to pay alot of money for hair, shoes, makeup and the dress.....i think that if you have them spend that much on the dress, maybe be a little bit more lenient on shoes/hair and makeup--maybe they can where whatever shoes as long as the color is the same and maybe they can have their hair done wherever they feel more comfortable.....and where it might even be more cheaper for them.....?
also, everyone has their own financial situation going on....for me personally, im not going to make them get certain shoes or make them get their hair done with a specific person....i really want my girls to feel comfortable with being my BM. Ive been in situations where pple dont understand and just push to have it their way which isnt always right....so def talk to them about how they feel.

Re: how muchh..
We just looked at bridesmaids dresses this week. We are going through Macy's bridal and the lady there was so nice as to inform me of the best time to order b/c they are having a promotion the week of June15th. The dresses are almost $200, but with the promotion and a coupon, it's $165! So, I just need one bridesmaid to pay in full and the price will be locked in for all of them. Also, we picked cocktail length dresses that are one tone (royal blue) that they will be able to wear again and plan on bringing in the accent color with a flower brooch(sp?). I HTH!!

my feeling is in order to stay under 150 you have to go short! i think that 200 is average!
