How necessary is a cake topper?

How necessary is a cake topper?

Have some of you gone without one or do any of you plan on skipping that?
I am afraid that I'm not going to find one that I like. Do I have to have it? I may have two sugared pears on top of the cake instead...

I have never seen one that I really thought represented my FH and me very well, so I don't think we'll be going with one. A lot of people opt to have some flowers or other types of ordination around it now instead.

What else can you use? I'm just looking for options - don't really care for a typical topper.

We had a monogram...3 letters on top of the cake. Looked very nice, IMO.

I'm not big on a cake topper either.. I want the cake, not the decorations! FH isn't big on them either, but we do have a Lladro that was my grandparents which will sit next to our cake

i dont think its absolutely necessary at all. i think we are just going to do flowers or a monogram.

We are having sugar flowers wrap around the cake so instead of a traditional topper we will have the flowers sit atop the cake.

Flowers... no topper, I'm not a knick-nack person.

Its not necessary at all I have been to a weddings that they had nothing on the cake no flowers no monograms or a topper and the cake was very pretty decorated and it looked fine

Re: How necessary is a cake topper?

I couldnt find a topper I liked and I am not a flower on top of the cake person, so I had received a lenox bride and groom that I loved. The day of the wedding they had it in front of the cake the whole night and then when we did the cake cutting they put it on top basically for pictures (it was too heavy to have on top the whole night) I love it and have it on display in my house!
I also do like the monogram idea.

But even without anything some cakes look gorgeous and its not a necessity!

I don't think that you have to have a cake topper. It's an individual thing. We're just having fresh flowers on our cake to match the CPs.

I wasn't going to get one, but when Frank's was going out of business, I found a really nice one for 12 bucks, so I bought it. Otherwise, I was just going to have flowers on it.

I didn't have one-- They just made flowers out of butter cream on the top.

( Sorry, not the best picture)

We didn't put anything ON the cake. We had figurines next to it and our monogram written on it.

I couldnt find anything that I liked- figurine style so I went with flowers and a monogram- 1 letter though not 3.
