Our guy comes and checks - if we need it he fills us up.
I'm sorry if that doesn't help!!!
BTW - so great to meet you the other night!

Re: How often do you guys have oil delivered?
I think ours is delivered every 3-4 weeks or so. The amount varies - I've seen about 129 gallons, 160 or so... They generally come when the tank is down about a half to 3/4's. We're on a monthly plan and so far, we're about on target with payments and deliveries.

about every 3 weeks. We fill up, it is about 200 gal. The more you buy, the cheaper the gallon it is

There MUST DEF be a mistake then.. I paid $455 on January 6 for like 300 some odd gallons and I just got a drop yesterday for $431.. this is RIDICULOUS..

How big is your oil tank? Isn't the standard oil tank like 225 gallons. It depends also how much you pay but if they topped you off last month they shouldn't be topping you off again. That sounds like a lot.

550 gallons then that makes sense. But you shouldn't need oil for quite some time now.

Its possible... what do you keep your thermostat set at during the day? at night? Do you have a hot water heater? What is the square footage of your house? New or old Windows?

Re: How often do you guys have oil delivered?
ok for Example: I just got a delivery last week, (it has been every 4weeks now) I also pay 1.29, we got 225 gallons (tank is 275) $291.00
We keep the temp at 60 degrees upstairs and down all day long while at work. Then have it set to come on to 67 for when we get home. Again at night, it goes down to around 63. It really does make a difference even a couple of degrees to keep it way down when you are not home. You can get a programmable thermo so it can be toasty by the time you get home and when you get up the AM.
Hot water heater - Ours isn't that large, but regardless... hot water heaters keep the water hot all the time. So as it cools down, it will come on (using oil, if its not electric) to heat even if you are not using water. You can get a sort of blanket at home depot to insulate HW heaters they say this helps.
New windows are good, therefore you're not heating the neighborhood!
I think the biggest thing that would make a difference would be to turn the thermostat down a little during the day. Make sure they are charging you the 1.29... and not charging the market rate which is around 1.64 right now.

Re: How often do you guys have oil delivered?
Marcella, When we moved in we had an underground oil tank. We switched to an above ground one before the winter. I researched this a lot. Call the former owner's oil company and ask what the average usage was. They keep records of this. If yours is way above that- and it sounds like you're using a lot of oil- you could have a leak. Our engineer told us that one of the ways to know if there was an underground leak was from excess oil consumption. Depending on how old your takn is, you may want to consider getting an above ground tank. They are pricey (around 2200$)- but I know I feel better about knowing that my oil tank is not leaking.

Re: How often do you guys have oil delivered?
Oh jeez Marcella... I didn't realize your tank was underground
Sam is right, I would have that checked too. I hope it is not leaking, that will involve an environmental cleanup...
We actually had our tank checked out when we moved in and it was fine.. The guy at our place said that b/c of the fact that the lower part of our house is completely empty and that we have to maintain the heat at 70-75 in order to have the upstairs warm (being that hot air rises), there's alot of it going to waste.. I guess once we start and finish the construction downstairs, it'll have a big impact..
Thanks guys! =)

Re: How often do you guys have oil delivered?
No problem
You could also look into having a second heating zone installed for the downstairs. If you don't think you will be down there much, then you would be able to leave the downstairs at a lower temp than upstairs, because its on two separate thermostats.
This way you don't have to keep the entire house at 70-75.
