seriously....every SINGLE picture looks the same to me. No one seems to be more talented than another but they sure do charge differently!
is it just best to go by recs?

i'm having a tough time myself. Im also having issues because I know a few different vendors require atleast 3 people in the party to book and I don't want to 'force' anyone to pay for anything else.

For hair, I am sticking with my regualr stylist...Friend of his family, I like her work, cant go wrong...Makeup I will probably go by my hair stylists reccomendation, I would think she would know alot about that stuff...

Alot of time it is not only based on the work but experience. Sometimes you may just not get a warm and fuzzy.
But, I know of all the people recommended on this site, everyone seems to look amazing. So maybe it has more to do with who is available and who is closer.

yea the minimum thing has got to go.
my $100+ should be good enough...i shouldn't have to make my girls get it done also if they don't want to. I shouldn't be penalized for this either

Re: how on earth do you pick a makeup/hair artist?
I went with Oksana because every image I have seen where she did the makeup I loved it. I am very very picky with makeup (been doing it for myself and others too long). She is pretty reasonable, especially when I get quotes from others for around 300 just for the bride for makeup... thats a little to much.
I think she did a great job, but I would say if you see reviews with people you like the makeup and hair from conisistantly, go check them out.
Also, if there is someone that you like the make up of at a cosmetics counter, they will sometimes do free trials, and they may free-lance and be able to come do your wedding.
Hair, I have no freakin clue yet lol

Re: how on earth do you pick a makeup/hair artist?
i dont know but i noticed differences alot between artists. Especially with hair, and i would pay close to attention to trials that are similar to what you want to do. I did my hair mostly down with big curls, and the curls i see a HUGE difference between artists. Some do ringlets or their curls dont last( this is good to get a NW's advice from day of) or looked frizzy or too prom-ish for my style. I saw one hair stylist that each and every single time she did curls I LOOOOVED how it came out and was exactly how I wanted it. So i knew i wanted her to do my hair. Even with make up you can tell a difference many times. Some do the foundation too light or too dark and you see that line between neck and face and difference in color. Or I think the eyes arent done up as well, or they do it with lipgloss that is too harsh or just doesn't go.

I can notice differences but I really pay attention to their experience and recommendations/reviews as well
