how soon after the 'official engagement' are you supposed to have the E-party?

FH and 'officially' got engaged just over 2 weeks ago (been unofficial since November), and people are starting to ask when our engagement party is.

Is there an established timeline for this?

(trying to think happy thoughts to distract from exams and stress with my roommate)

There isn't a specific time you HAVE to have it, infact there is no rule that says you even have to have one period. Normally they say about 2-4 months after the engagement, but many people wait a little longer. The 2-4 rule applies if you are getting married in a year or less bc you cant have it too close to the wedding.

I had mine about 6 months later

I'd guess whenever you want to have it...

We didn't have an e-party, but I don't think that there's any rule as to when to have it. I'd say at least a year or more before the wedding, but it looks like you're safe there.

We'll only be engaged 9 months on our wedding day, so we didn't have one.

we did it about a year before the actual wedding. i think anything sooner than that may be too soon.

ETA: we got engaged Christmas of '04 and had our e-party first week of july '05 so that it was better weather.

I don't think there is any rule as long as it isn't too close to any of the other events such as the shower or the wedding itself.
Mine was almost 3 months after we were engaged

I'm not sure of the official rules but I like when it's within a few months of the actual engagement. When it's 6 months later I start to feel like it's all about getting gifts. Also, I agree at least a year before the wedding is best. JMO

It is your wedding and your celebration. You should do whatever you want! I am having mine 5.5 months after my engagement because I wanted to wait until the warmer weather.

We kind of delayed on ours. We had it about 8 months after our engagement. We got engaged in December but we wanted to wait until the summer and we figured June and July are always busy months so we waited until August.

You have plenty of time to have one. Usally people have it between 2-6 months after they get engaged. But if your getting married within that year you really don't have one. I would say atleast 1 year before the wedding.

We got engaged in April and had our in july

weve been engaged for over a year now and will be married next may. My mom is trying to see if we can pull one off (we are soooooo poor ) at the end of this may....it prob wont happen bc the wedding bills are piling up, but that wo0uld be 14 mons after the engagement

We got engaged on August 28 and had our Engagement party on December 3, so that is about 3 months.

I think it depends on when you are getting married, I think it should be about 1 year before your wedding.

The 'books' tell you to do it a year before the wedding. Our e-party is almost a month away and we got engaged Dec '06 so it'll be almost 5 months afterwards.
