We got engaged on Thanksgiving and the wedding isn't until the end of October.
When is a good time to start this process?

You could start now. Depending if you are having an engagment party or not, you could start as soon as yesterday! There is no timeline (IMO) and you are constantly changing things on your registries. Not for nothing, start 1 and add more registries later if you choose. At least you get a feel for the process and you and your FH will have a lot of fun (especially if its a rainy day like today) Have fun!!

register whenever you can! people might buy you gifts from your registry for the holidays.

im waiting until after the new year so new lines/collections can comeout.... plus from what iv heard a lot of thing get discontinued at then end of the year so i migh tas well wait for those things to not even be available when i register

we registered right away for all the basics and we have received so much off of it already!
the only thing we haven't regsitered for eyt is bedding because that generally gets discountinued seasonally

im waiting until after the new year so new lines/collections can comeout.... plus from what iv heard a lot of thing get discontinued at then end of the year so i migh tas well wait for those things to not even be available when i register

my shower is in april, and I havent registered yet... im waiting until after the new year... so theres less of a chance that anything I put on will be discontinued or anything like that

I registered at Macys, BBB, Williams-Sonoma and JCPenney. Havent publicized any of these registries yet to anyone though since I just opened the registries to get the basic info and plan to actually add items to it as the months pass...

I'm getting married next October and started a registry in time for the Holidays... I've already gotten a few things and haven't announced it at all... it's amazing how resourceful people can be. I say go ahead and get up and running... the sooner you are in the stores seeing what you like the better off you will be and it helps to be exposed early I think. Have fun!

I would start now. It's sort of a pain and also it can change over time. Start now and you will see, you will update it as you go along and think of more things.

We got engaged Oct 10th 2009 and are getting married on Dec 4 2010. I actually registered today! Just at Macy's for some crystal and fine china items, picture frames, candle stick holders, etc. That stuff is expensive so hopefully people can wait for it to go on sale. Plus, maybe we'll get some for our e-party. We aren't registering for bedding and other items for a few more months. That stuff is always changing.

We registered right away because we started receiving engagement gifts immediately (didn't expect it) and I wanted to give some direction to people that wanted to give us something. Otherwise, I knew I'd start to get stuff that I didn't really need, want, and couldn't return!

So true... I wish we had waited a little longer to register bc sooo much stuff got discontinued. (our bedding, our everyday plates and a bunch of other things) and it was a pain in the butt trying to find new stuff all the time!
