I have a friend who is very dramatic about everything. Anyway, she emails me and tells me that she's very broke right now and won't be able to give us much for the wedding. Then she asks me how soon after the wedding will I be depositing her gift! I was like, 'WHAT?' And she said that she has many bills to pay and is very broke and wants to be sure the check will not bounce. I don't even care if she gives me one dollar... It's just the fact that you don't need to explain to someone all of this... you just give what you can give, and try not to be cheesy about it.

Re: How tacky is this?
we are still 'holding' one of my MIL friends checks, she call MIL weekly to see if we deposited it, Its for a large amount too. God only knows when she will give us the 'OK' to deposit. At this point DH doesnt even care. People do all sorts of crazy things

Re: How tacky is this?
I had a friend who did this me- first she said she couldn't be in my bridal party b/c she couldn't afford it
the dresses were paid for by my Dad- and they are black so I no need to buy shoes
then she went on to tell me how she can't afford to give people gifts and it's such a burden
needless to say after she dropped out of my bridal party over email- I haven't spoken to her
I think there are better ways to go about this situation-
