Does anyone know how/education required to become a counselor (family, work related, etc..)?
I'm becoming a guidance counselor. I got my BS in Psychology and I'll be getting my Masters in Counseling. You DO NOT need a PhD to be a counselor nor do you NEED to get liscenced...although you really should if you plan on opening your own practice. Most colleges have counseling degrees for the Graduate level -- you just have to check each school and see what programs they offer.

I am licensed clinical social worker. I am licensed to do therapy in NYS. I obtained my MSW and then took the licensure exam.
