Re: How To: Block hotel rooms????
Depends on how many OOT guests you'll have. Most hotels will give you a deal on the block of rooms, call any hotel and ask for sales or group sales. In many cases the price they give you is contingent upon all blocked rooms being reserved, usually 10.

Re: How To: Block hotel rooms????
Okay, I just did this the other day. I have only blocked one hotel so far. My mom wants me to block another hotel. The problem with that is, you have to guarantee a certain number of rooms. I am blocking rooms on a Sunday and I need a minimum of 10 rooms. I am sure this is different at all hotels.
All I did was go to the hotel and ask about blocking rooms. A sals rep showed me around the hotel and showed me a standard room and a suite. I had to guarantee 10 rooms on either Saturday or SUnday. I blocked rooms for Saturday as well, but I did not need to guarantee 10 rooms on a Saturday. I didn't put any money down. I just signed a sort of contract. All guest have to do is call the hotel a month or more in advance to make reservations. They just tell the desk your name, and that they want to make a reservation for a blocked room. It is very easy.

It's easy, you just call the hotel and tell them you are getting married at CLM and are interested in blocking X rooms on the date.
I've been to some weddings that provided one or two options. The people who provided more than one option were either ones that had a large number of out of town guests or they chose two hotels that were in different price categories.

Re: How To: Block hotel rooms????
I called the hotels local phone number and told the person on the line that I wanted to talk to someone about a 'group' rate. I was then transferred and spoke to a sales person. They provided quotes and minimum guarantee information.
You will need to know the following before you call:
- How many rooms will you need? - How many days? - What date range?
Things to ask:
- Is a complimentary meal included? - Is shuttle service provided to / from airport? - Is shuttle service available to the reception / ceremony site? - What is the penalty if you cancel? - What is the cutoff date for making / changing reservations? - What is the penalty if you can't make the minimum? - When will they release the rooms to the public if they aren't booked? - If you go over your allocated amount, can you still book additional rooms at the negotiated rate?
Make sure all of this is outlined in any contract they send you and feel free to FM me if you have any other questions. HTH

Re: How To: Block hotel rooms????
I am getting married in Massapequa and offered my guests two choices. 1. Best Western as a cheap and decent motel. The place is only 5 mintues from my reception and is very affordable. 2. mariott-very nice place. not as cheap. i went to see the rooms of both places before calling them to book. they will send you a contract to sign and give you cards.

Re: How To: Block hotel rooms????
Hi, i blocked 12 rooms, but i dont have to guarantee them that all the rooms will be taken. they will hold those 12 rooms in my name at the special rate until 1 month before the wedding.
make sure your guests book by the deadline or they may not be able to get a room or get it at the special rate

Re: How To: Block hotel rooms????
How did you figure out how many rooms to block? Did you just look through your list and count up how many OOT guests were likely to be spending the night?

Yes, this is how I did it, it is sort of a 'guesstimate.'
