How to book honeymoon?

I'm very comfortable with using the internet to book travel within the US, but a honeymoon seems like a whole different monster... especially since we're planning on going to Italy. Would it be better to use a travel agent? It seems like it might be more expensive since there's a 'middle man,' but also, they might have inside info on better deals. So my questions are:

1. Did you use the internet or a travel agent to book your honeymoon?
2. Did you price both options, and if so, which one seemed cheaper?
3. Any recommendations for internet sites or travel agents for an Italian honeymoon?

This seems so overwhelming to me! Also, I wanted to add that we aren't looking for a 'tour' package - we'd rather take our time and set our own agenda. Thanks again ladies - you are lifesavers!

Re: How to book honeymoon?

we used a lady we know at Liberty Travel...
I have used the internet for planning some trips but for the HM I wanted to use a travel agent. I did compare the prices once and I think our travel agent came out to be cheaper...

Re: How to book honeymoon?

From my experiance, there is really only a fee they tell you about. When I got plane tickets they charge me 20 dollars a person. But I would have had to pay that anyway online to have my tickets sent to me because this particular airline required paper tickets.

Re: How to book honeymoon?

I found the internet to be cheapier with the exception of a few vendors found here

Example.... Travel Agent and others wanted 250 to fly to san juan...

im flyin gto san juan 99 each via Jet Blue..

i would check all your options...
only thing they have that you dont is knowledge and advice (which you can get here for free)

Online is just a big travel agent if you really think about it

Re: How to book honeymoon?

I have posted many things about Honeymoons on these boards since I started back in Jan. I am in the travel industry and I too book a few things online, like my plane tickets and regular hotels.... If you want to make your honeymoon really special, you should go to an expert, aka a travel professional. Talk to them, interview them, A good travel agent is one that has traveled to the destination that you want to go to and can tell you intimate details. A good travel agent listens to what you are telling them and will take the time to put something together to fit your needs and budget.

One of my accounts, Corrine from Travel World showcase in the BRonx is WOnderful. 718-409-1000. She did one of my friend's honeymoon to Italy and they loved every minute of it.

Good Luck
