I was engaged for the past year and my wedding date was March of this coming year @ Waters Edge in LIC, NY. As of Christmas Eve, I'm now single and looking for a replacement couple for the venue that we had booked. I know this sounds RIDICULOUS but the venue is stating that I would have to pay the full amountregardless of if there was a wedding or not..unless a replacement is found. I'm hoping not to just leave this in the hands of the venue and be able to be proactive about this by trying to at least attempt to find someone.
My question is: how would I go about doing so? Are there any message boards or etc that would be helpful? I mean, there are freaky things out there online so I'm assuming there has to be SOMETHING out there or SOMEONE HERE.
Any help would be appreciated. I have my dress, the bridesmaids' dresses, gifts and etc that I can't return. I really do not want to be responsible for this when it's hard enough with the situation at hand.

I posted the date and the venue on some websites that sell the wedding package. I haven't gotten any responses though.
With Water's Edge; I remember specifically, when we both went to look at the place, that she said that if something were to happen and it was cancelled, it would be okay and that I wouldn't be responsible for the whole thing. I SPECIFICALLY remember that because it was a selling point for me (other than the place itself) because I was so hopped up on going to The Harbor Club in Huntington (but couldn't cause it was so pricey).
I have a lawyer. He sent out letters of representation and he clearly told me that there is no way in hell I would be responsible for anything. I'm still nervous though.
I picked up my dress last Saturday and it's been sitting in my closet. I can't even bring myself to look at it.

Hi Anne, that's good that you have a lawyer. Hopefully that will resolve quickly and that will be one less thing for you to worry about. What an awful situation- I'm sorry you're going through this.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this. Try to keep your head up and remember that everything happens for a reason. I know that it's easier said than done, but I'm sure you have some good things coming your way!

sooo I know somebody who did this and you could bring it up but it depends on the venue....... FH cousin was engaged to somebody had everything planned to be at Eastwind but then they broke up and instead of loosing the venue and money she asked if they could credit her to have a wedding at a later date and they took her up on it! 3 years later she met someone else and is getting married at Eastwind with her credit.
