How to get $ back from reception hall??

HELP! I booked a hall for my May 5, 2002 wedding a few months ago, and have since found another hall that I love for much less $. The problem is that I have already made a few payments to the first hall, and they say they will not return any of it unles they rebook the date, which of course, there is no guarantee of. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get my $ back? I don''''t even mind if they keep the deposit! Thank you!

How to get $ back from reception hall??

Were the payments you made to the hall, other than the deposit, required? If not, they should be returned I think. I can understand them keeping the deposit if they do not book the date, but any extra $ you have since given to them that was not required really should be returned. I'd just call your contact there and discuss it with him/her.

What hall? depending on the place that you originally booked it might work out--the time of year that you are getting married is prime time so i am sure there is some bride out there that wants your date and place-- what hall did you switch too? Laura

Money Back

A friend of mine booked one Catering Hall and then changed her mind it was at least 1year before the wedding and they gave her a full refund. It is possible to get money back maybe it is the timeframe. Check regularly to see if the date gets booked so you can get your money back. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Money Back

Does it say anything in the contract? If not, say that it should have been listed in there and that, legally, they have to give you everything but the deposit back. Good luck!

How to get $ back from reception hall??

Thank you all for your suggestions! Unfortunately, the contract does state that any payments submitted are nonrefundable if the contract is canceled. I was hoping that there was a way to get around this w/o waiting for the date to rebook.

What I have seen others do

The reason I asked for the hall was because I have seen brides 'soliciting' for their place, and date so that they could 'unload' it-- not only on this board but other wedding boards as well just an idea Laura

do you know any lawyers?

It doesn't sound right that they keep anything BUT the deposit. payments sound like exactly what they are...payments to the final bill.

There is a law in suffolk County...

That states if you cancel your wedding up until 3 months before the wedding date, they will refund all your money except a $100 cancellation fee. Nassau County does not have this law, so i don't think they'll refund you. But you could call a local TV station and threaten the catering hall! Thus has been known to work! Good luck littlep
