how about beans, or chick peas, or cheese is good too.. either cottage cheese or like string cheese is a good snack. also peanut butter has a lot of protein in it, its a good snack on an apple or something in a low quantity :)

Re: how to get more protein in diet?
soy products are especially good sources of protein. you can get practically anything made from soy - soy burgers, soy hot dogs, soy sausage, soy cheese, soy milk........ when i eliminated all meat but fish from my diet, i added a lot of soy products to get the protein i was lacking.

Re: how to get more protein in diet?
I keep 'Designer whey protein' in my desk drawer. I have 1.5 scoops every morning and sometimes for a snack during the day. It is great! I have been taking this religously for about seven years now. Whey protein is used very efficiently by the body. I highly recomend it to everyone.
Just get a regular coffee cup or a little gigger full of water, and add a scoop, mix, then add more! Chocolate is the best.
edited to say, I'm drinking it right now!

Re: how to get more protein in diet?
I used to do the same thing as Snowboardgirl. Now I eat protein bars. I also drink protein shakes and make them like this:
A scoop or packet of protein powder blended with ice cubes, some skim milk, and fat free/sugar free frozen yogurt. Yummmm!
Do you like tuna? Or no fish at all? Tuna has good protein - I mix it with a little low fat mayo and eat it on crackers as a snack. I also bring hard-boiled eggs to work sometimes.

Re: how to get more protein in diet?
I second the beans!!! Lentils especially! Black beans are 2nd in line... if you can get/make lentil soup, or add some in a salad, you'd be fine! Good luck!

Me too! Cheaper that way! I have to try the U-Turn bar next....
Oh, Yabbobay - do you not eat just red meat, or no meat at all? Pork tenderloin is awesome. Low in fat, high in protein, and so tender. I love it.

I eat peanut butter between meals too for added protein. I put a serving on two rice cakes. Also, nut are a great source too! walnuts and almonds are healthy, and a filling snack!

I get Designer protein from GNC. It cost about $30. If you have 1.5 scoops per weekday (5days per week) it lasts a month.

Re: how to get more protein in diet?
The powder I use is 90 calories per scoop. Almost no carbohydrates.
You can eat 10 egg WHITES per day. I would only eat about 1 or 1.5 yolks per day though. They are packed with vitamins, AND lots of protein, but high in fat, so 1 won't hurt you. I hard boil mine and put about 4 egg whites and one yolk in a cup and chop in up with a fork, that way you get a little yolk in every bite for flavor.
You will see results, if you eat right, and weight train on a regular basis. Too much protein is bad too, if it make your calories per day too high. If you are very active, and go to the gym regularly, have .6-.8 grams per pound of body weight per day.

Re: how to get more protein in diet?
It depends on what protein shakes you get. Off the top of my head I can't remember how many calories the Myoplex powder has - it's not much though. But when you add milk and frozen yogurt like I do, of course the calories add up! There are also low-carb ready-to-drink shakes that I like. They're Myoplex too and they come in a silver juice box type container. They're only about 130 calories. The dark chocolate flavor is the best.
As far as eggs, I don't know what your cholestorol level is like, but I'm sure you know that the yolk is high in cholestorol, so I wouldn't eat more than 4 or 5 whole eggs a week (that's purely a guess). You of course can eat all the egg whites you want, and they even sell just the whites too at the grocery store. Or, you can eat one whole and one white mixed together if you don't like just the whites.
It's really tough to get a good amount of protein if you don't like meat........ if you think chicken is boring, start experimenting. There are so many things you can do with chicken! FH could eat it every day so I make it a lot....
Oops - hee hee - me and Snowboardgirl are on the same brainwaves today!
