How to include my mom?

How to include my mom?

I don't know if anyone else is doing this, but I thought I'd ask...

My mom has been so helpful through all of my planning so far, and since I'm not living in NY, I would never be able to get this wedding planned without her.

The problem is that I feel like she has done all this 'behind-the-scenes' work on the wedding, and when the actual day rolls around there's not really a traditional way for me to honor her or recognize her for being such a great mom and role model (MY dad is walking me down the aisle, I will get to dance with my father, and my FH will dance with his mother, but I think that is sort of short-changing my mom).

Does anyone have plans to/know of a way to recognize their mother in some way at the reception? If so, what are you doing?

Thanks!

You could ask the DJ to make an announcement. You could make a toast. You could do a special dance with her after you dance with your dad. You could add some special words to your program (if you are having one). Instead of doing a bo-k toss you could do a presentation of your bo-k to your mother.

Ummm, I can't think of anything else right now.

You could also do a toast or something similar at the rehearsal dinner if doing it at the wedding itself might be tough.

I know I would like to do something like that for my mom too.

Fh and I both come from parents who have been happily married for over 25 years. We both were raised in very loving homes...We also arent paying for our wedding, thanks to my parents and his parents as well.

With that said, the only way we thought we could thank them was to both give a little speech at the reception and then have them dance to a song that is perfect..
'Grow Old With Me' as example of what FH and I want out marriage to be..

ETA: fh will walk down the aisle with his parents and I will walk down with my dad

I had both my parents walk me down the aisle. It really should have been just mom, but then dad would have been hurt.
Another thing you could do is have a dance with just her...there are many lovely songs for this.
Make sure to honor her by giving a speech especially thanking her at the reception.
Although since your mom sounds so amazing, I'm sure anything will suffice and she's doing it all because she loves you and wouldn't have it any other way.

Or, instead of doing the bo-k toss, you could present her with the bo-k instead. I did that and my mother was really touched.

I feel the same way. In addition, since my mom really raised me I wanted to recognize her at the church as well so I'm going to have her wait at the end of the aisle and give me away with my dad. I am also dancing with her at the wedding (after my dad) and having something prepared to say prior to the dance.

Gotta show my mom some love

I think a toast to her would be so wonderful...

I agree completely, but I don't think i'd be able to hold myself together for a speech on that day! I'd be an emotional disaster!!!

How about a speech at the rehersal dinner? omg...i'm getting nervous about it already!

Both my parents accompanied me down the aisle. How about a dance with your mom? A special bo-k of flowers-sorry if this has been mentioned already

I danced with my mom to Wind Beneath My Wings after the other parents dances were over. I had to do this for her. She has always been the one to hold me up especially when I doubted myself. She did not know I was going to do this or use that song (Its very special to us both because its her song for her mother), she was shocked and we both cried the entire time.

I am having my dad walk me down the aisle, but we will pick up my mom in her pew, and we will walk to FH together.

At the reception I will dance with my mom too, and we are giving both moms a dozen red and white roses when we say our thank yous.....

I had my mom walk me down the aisle and my dad met us half way and gave me away...

A few minutes after I started dancing with my dad, I brought my brother out on the floor with my mom and all of us danced together. It made a great picture.

Another option is to have his dad dance with you and your mom dance with your FH.

Not at the reception, but at the ceremony. Both my husband and I gave each of our mothers a rose. It was called the presentation of the roses. It was very sweet!

GREAT SONG for dancing with mom..

'She's somebody's Hero' by Jamie O'Neil!!!!

'In my daughter's eyes' - Martina McBride
http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/martina-mcbride/in-my-daughters-eyes-10829.html

'She's somebodys hero' - I just LOVE it
She's never pulled anyone from a burning building
She's never rocked Central Park to a half a million fans, screaming out her name
She's never hit a shot to win the game
She's never left her footprints on the moon
She's never made a solo hot air balloon ride, around the world,
No, she's just your everyday average girl (but)

She's somebody's hero
A hero to her baby with a skinned up knee
A little kiss is all she needs
The keeper of the cheerios
The voice that brings Snow White to life
Bedtime stories every night
And that smile lets her know
She's somebody's hero

She didn't get a check every week like a nine-to fiver
But she's been a waiter, and a cook and a taxi driver
For twenty years, there at home, until the day her girl was grown
Giving all her love to her was her life's ambition
But now her baby's movin' on, and she'll soon be missin' her
But not today, those are tears of joy runnin' down her face

She's somebody's hero
A hero to her daughter in her wedding dress
She gave her wings to leave the nest
It hurts to let her baby go down the aisle she walks right by
Looks back into her mother's eyes
And that smile lets her know
She's somebody's hero

Thirty years have flown right past
Her daughters' starin' at all the photographs
Of her mother, and she wishes she could be like that
Oh, but she already is

She's somebody's hero
A hero to her mother in a rockin' chair
She runs a brush through her silver hair
The envy of the nursing home
She drops by every afternoon
Feeds her mama with a spoon
And that smile lets her know
Her mother's smile lets her know
She's somebody's hero

Instead of throwing my BK away I walked on the dancefloor like that is what I was going to do, but then said I wanted to give it to my Mom instead. I gave her my BK then we danced alone to 'I Turn to you' my christina aguielera.

I am having both my mother and father walk me down the isle. I thought it would be a nice way of thanking both of them.
