How to pick ... a DJ

So now that photography/videography are out of the way ... how on earth do we go about picking a DJ? I am certain everyone will have opinions!

Any I should DEFINITELY check out? Avoid?

HELP!?!?!

Check out FM Entertainment, Bravura, Tommy Tunes and LI Sound

Post on the Vendors helping brides section, that will help give you a decent idea of what packages go for

Honestly though, we met with Bravura first and loved their presentation, personality and what they had to offer, then met with FM and we felt like no one was going to fit what we wanted as well as Bravura so we booked. I guess it depends on what you want in your package (DJ, MC, live elements, lighting) and who you feel you can work well with.

Ok...go to showcases because different DJs perform at all the showcases. Decide DJ or band? I recommend Long Island Sound Entertainment. That is who I chose. But also Absolute Entertainment is good as well as FM Entertainment.

Decide on what exactly you want out of your DJ. I am having live music play along with the DJ. Its actually really cool. Plus, I'm very picky and LI Sound has a white DJ booth. The white goes better with my wedding hall as well as my vision. The booth can be illuminated in any color your want too! So its really cool.

Decide on a budget, so when you go to them you can talk them down. Be like 'i really love you guys but this is my budget and I can't go over.' Most of the time their prices are way higher than you actually get them for. I talked my guy down quite a bit.

Decide on how involved you want your DJ and go into appointments knowing this. Most DJs these days are very accommodating and will do anything you want.

Be as specific as you can with them. The DJ is essentially what gets your party going and keeps it going. The guys are LI Sound are very professional and know how to do it without dragging people out of their seats and being a pain in the ***.

Read things about the different DJs. Go on Better Business Bureau website. I was at a wedding last year and the DJ got in a fight with a waiter and was so beat up from the fight he had to call someone else in to finish the wedding. I don't wanna name what company.....in case someone else has them booked and loves them. FM me if you want to know. Good luck

Look at a bunch- but also keep in mind your budget

FM entertainment gave us the most for our money and I love the MC!!

You should think of what kid of dj/mc you want. I didn't want that mc that was going to up in your face. I wanted a classy and professional feel to my Dj/mc. I also asked people why they choose who they did, what did they offer ect. We knew once we sat with LI Sound that's the style I wanted. And when I went to a wedding in feb and they were the dj/mc and I saw how they interacted and kept the floor packed all night i started to get giddy and excited that we made the best choice for out entertainment.

I don't know if you and FH are both of the same origin, but we love Sound Connection because they have an extensive knowledge of world music. This was very important to FH, as he wanted to honor his heritage by playing music from Trinidad.

I was looking for the same thing and we also chose LI Sound. I loved their personalities, the look of their equipment and what they had to offer. I definitely recommend them to anyone.

When your looking for DJs, go for a showcase.. this way you can see them in action and you can get a feel for the work they do.. i would say Defiantly look into FM entertainment... they have great packages and their MCs are very classy and professional. We booked them on the spot!!

Long Island sound has gotten great reviews as well, and when FH and i saw them at the last Bridal expo they put on a great show.. just a little out of our budget...

GOOD LUCK!!

definitely not considering a band. our reception room isnt HUGE so i dont want it to feel cramped with a band!
