How was your expierence trying on sample sizes (if you are not a sample size!)

Hi girls! I figured you were all the best people to ask about this. I am starting to look for dresses in the upcomoing weeks and I am nervous about having to try on all size 2 dresses and look like an idiot.

So how was your expierence? I know some places have some larger size dresses, but did any place make you feel uncomfortable?

Just wondering.... TIA!

I'm definitely not a size 2 haha and all the places I went to all had bigger sizes...most places had a 10 so it was never a bad experience!!!

All bridal consultants are professionals and i'm sure that they'd never make you feel self conscious in anyway!! I'm sure they've seen everything hahaha

My first experience was horrrribble for this reason. I'm usually a size 10 dress but I gained a lot of weight and hadn't lost any when I went to try them on.. all the sample sizes at the place I went were 8, 10 and 12's.. maybe a 14 here n there if I was lucky.. and all but 1 or 2 were sooo tight that it made the experience really bad. Some I couldn't even get on and the ones I could, I couldn't tell whether or not it would look good in a bigger size. If you are bigger than a 12 or 14 then I would def call ahead to wherever you're going and make sure they have a wide variety of sample sizes.. I'm waiting till I lose the weight and get back to my normal size again before I go anywhere.. The experience was real bad lol

OH this was a post made for me: I went last week and was terrified. I am a street size 18 and was really nervous I wouldn't see myself in a dress. I thought i would have to hold them up against my body.

I tried on 10 dresses and only 1 of them i couldn't actually get on. All the dresses went on - they were clipped to my spanx and bra and i was able to see my self in a dress.

Jasmine dresses are great - they have multiple zippers, so if you are smaller or a little bit bigger there are different zippers for different sizes so you can actually fit into the dress.

I went to Lillette's in Bellmore and had a GREAT experience! Do not worry - i did and i even had bad dreams the night before and it was a really memorable and great experience.

This post was really helpful for me, and made me feel a bit better because you're getting married around the same time as me, and I was getting nervous because it seems like a lot of girls are ordering their dresses already. I've been waiting to go dress shopping for the same reason.

After things settle down in the next 3 weeks, I want to go dress shopping in June!

ALSO. . . . Someone suggested on a another thread to check out david's bridal because they have a wide variety. You can at least see what styles of dresses look best! Whether they have a dress you like or not, it's definitely a much better shopping experience when you can put something on!!

I was terrified about this....but I found my dream gown online. I searched high and low for a bridal salon that would have the sample in the store...I wasn't even looking for it in my size.

I lucked out by calling RK Bridal in Manhattan. They not only had the gown but they had it in my size!! I went to go try the dress on three times. I knew it was the gown when I saw it but wanted to go throught the experience of 'dress shopping,' so I tried on other gowns just to go through the experience and to see if any other gowns caught my eye..

As a plus size bride, I was really worried about this but RK Bridal in the city has a great selection of plus size gowns.

I didn't order my gown from them because I did not want to have to keep going back and forth to the city. I ended up ordering the gown from Bridal Elegance in Huntington.

I am sooo not a size 2! The dresses I tried on ranged from 10-14 and the employees are really good and making them fit by pinning and tucking. I wouldn't worry about it!!

actually i think it would be difficult for a true size 2 to find a sample that they didn't have to clip. All dress shops I have been to average a 10 as their normal sample size.

Most of the places I tried on dresses had slightly larger sizes, but many of the dresses i tried on didn't zip or close. They clipped it as much as possible but Im definitely not a size 2. It wasn;t terrible I lived with it. There were a few that did zip up so I was happy with those because I could really get a feel of what the dress would look like. It wasn';t as traumatizing as I thought it would be. I do have a problem with the dress designers because I wear a size 12 but the dress they ordered me was a size I think 16 or 18. The numbers should be the other way around so that you actually feel good about yourself instead of ordering a dress like 4 sizes bigger than you are!

i was 12 the last time i was a size 2...

they happened to have a size 12 at DB in my dress and it fit perfectly... so thats the size i got and luckily the sample was still relatively close the the size of a brand new 12... it didnt get stretched out as much as most do...

I am WAY not a size 2 (more like an 18) and I had no problem with dress samples. The people are all really experienced at clipping you into the gowns.
I tried on a lot of A line and ballgown styles so the bottom fit fine, and the top could be left open.

I would not have had the same experience with sheath or mermaid style gowns.

I am a street size 12-14 and all I remember saying to my bridal consultant was 'I am not coming out of this dressing room, the dress will not zip and my back is out' so she walked over to the dressing room and said 'It's ok Sabine, we see backs all the time, come out and show your mom the pretty dress.' lol. I tried on so many dresses, decided that a drop waist WAS NOT for me. Finally, I ended up buying an A line dress. Marge at Paradise Bridal was awesome.

Same almost with everything except my dress is a Da Vinci and they had A LOT of larger sizes at Lillette's. Dont worry it was probably the most fun I have had since i started planning the wedding. It will make it all feel real. And dont worry about the size on the dress just worry about looking hot for FH.

I'm nowhere close to being a size 2...I'm a street size 6 and tried on dresses from size 8-10. The consultant I loved worked with me and made me feel comfortable with dresses that were either too big or too small. As long as you find that consultant who works with you and for you, you will have a great experience!! Good luck!

I tried on some 10's and they were slightly tight. When I ordered a BM dress for my brother's wedding two years ago, it was a 14.

My experiences were not the best. i am a size 14 and it seemed like every dress was a 10 so my entire back and some other things were hanging out. It seemed like in every store they make you walk out to the large mirrors which are out on the floor where everyone is walking around. I have to say Bridal reflections in carle place was the best with this. She stuck a piece of material down the back so i wasnt exposed.
