Re: How were you proposed to?

We had come to the decision to get married and had already had the hall booked, my dress, the photographer, band, etc. We had gone together to pick out the ring and ordered it together. The ring in the store was in yellow gold which isn't my thing so the designer in Europe had to recast a mold & make a setting in platinum. We ordered it in May and didn't get it till July! So on the 4th of July we were getting ready for a party- we had just eaten breakfast and were in our PJs. FH got down on one knee & just stated CRACKING UP. It was just so funny b/c I obviously knew we were going to get married.

We were at his parents house on the island this valentine's day. After returning from dinner, there was a Sad Sam stuffed animal sitting on the couch holding a card and the box (I call my FH Sad Sam because he has puppydog eyes like the dog when he's sad or confused), and in the card 'Will you Marry me?'

We went to see The Christmas Show at Radio City Music Hall on Christmas eve. When we got back to the hotel, he had champagne & flowers waiting. We started to open our gifts and he went down on one knee and popped the question. It was very nice.

February 14, 2001

Nick proposed at one of our most memorable places, Captree State Park on West Islip, Long Island, New York. We left work promptly at 5:30 p.m. heading east bound on the LIRR at Hicksville where Nick parked the car. We drove nearly 30 miles which Tina had no clue as to where we were going. We vaguely remember how far Captree State Park was, but remember that night where we sat in the car to talk back in January 1997. We got out of the car into the darkness and started to walk on the boardwalk. He told Tina that he got a surprise for her and have her turn around where the view of Fire Island was calm and a clear night. She then was allowed to turn around to see a little box wrapped up perfectly for Valentine’s Day. Nervously, she opened the box shaking from the cold and saw a ring sparkling in the darkness. Nick then got down on his hands and knees taking Tina’s hand to pop the question. Overwhelm with joy, she said yes throwing herself at Nick with a bear hug. We then went to the nearest place to eat since we were far from home at Seaford Palace Diner for a late dinner.

My fiance proposed after dinner on Valentines Day in his car. I guess he didn't want to do it in public. But it was still a really big suprise!

Re: How were you proposed to?

For my birthday this past August, Chris totally blew it. Forgot it and gave me an Amelie DVD at the last minute. Two weeks later he told me we were going to Quebec for the weekend with a group of his friends. I was so busy and stressed at work I let him make all the arrangements, which is very unusual. He just told me to bring a nice dress, some casual weekend clothes and my passport. Once we got to the airport and were walking up to the counter he made me stop a few feet away and he handed me a Paris guide book and a ticket to Paris! I was in shock. He said it was a belated birthday present and that he just cashed in miles. Not a big deal. I had been wrong so many times about when he was going to propose I just didn't let myself think about it. Once we landed he would not tell me any details. He just handed notes to the drivers and hotel clerks. That night he made arrangements for a dinner cruise on the Seine with only 10 other couples on board. As we sailed under the Pont de Neuf bridge (a print we have in our apartment) he got down on one knee and proposed. I was crying so much I couldn't even open the ring box!

In December 2000, after my company Christmas party in the city, we took a horse and carriage ride and then went to see the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center. On a night where it was like 10 degrees, he held me tight, then got down on one knee in front of a million people and asked. I didn't believe it at first.....

Re: How were you proposed to?

Okay - here's my story...

We had been dating a little over 3 yrs and had talked about getting married but I thought I would be able to figure out when he would propose since I ALWAYS make all the plans. Anways, I got very very sick last spring and was in & out of the hospital for about 5 weeks so needless to say was not really thinking about getting engaged at that moment. The first night I was out of bed we were playing scrabble in our apartment. I was getting tired and we were getting to the end of game - I picked the tile out of the bag and he told me there was 'one more' in there - when I went back in I pulled out a diamond ring instead of a letter! He went down on one knee and proposed. I was in SUCH shock and just kept saying 'No WAY!!!' He totally fooled me!

Re: How were you proposed to?

Everyone has such good romantic stories for their proposals. Mine is hilarious!! My FH is big on romance, so he planned out the perfect way. He took me to the beach and was planning on proposing as the sun was settng while walking along the shore with our feet in the water. Unknowningly, I did everything in power to ruin it.
I didn't want to walk in the sand cause I had my boots on, I didn't want to take them off cause I didn't want to get my feet wet. So he wanted to sit on the stairs to at least be by the sand- I didn't feel like sitting on the stairs, I wanted to sit on the bench. When we finally sat on the bench, I wouldn't let him hold me in his arms.(It was uncomfortable to do so).
Finally, after about an hour of fighting (he wanted me to close my eyes, I said no, etc), he finally just threw the ring at me and said 'Marry me.' He later told me if I disagreed to one more thing, he wouldn't have proposed that night!

Re: How were you proposed to?

I was completely suprised when my FH proposed at the top of the Fire Island Lighthouse. He was on a Long Island history kick for that month, so when he suggested a tour of the lighthouse I was not that enthused, but went along anyway. After climbing up to the very top of the lighthouse we went outside on the metal deck and he put his arms around me from behind and started saying a little speech about the lighthouse...Isn't this lighthouse interesting? It's always here for the sailors whether it's rain, snow or fog, it's always a fixed point for them. Will you be my fixed point? At this point I turned around to see what he was talking about and he was on one knee with the ring box open and said will you marry me? Of course I said yes and cried. At this point I couldn't wait to climb back down!

March 15, 2002 - Copper Mountain, CO

FH and I were on a trip to celebrate my finishing school. We were with 6 of our friends and on this particular day FH had his video camera - 'to get some footage for his parents'. He had been talking about filiming on the mountain so I wasn't suspicious at all. We're at the top of the mountain and he suggests we take some pictures. I point out some benches and suggest we go over there. He insists we stay where we are, and we argue like brats about where to take the picture. He won, and we have a group shot on film and still from that particular spot. Then as I turn around to put my skis back on FH drops to one knee and asked me. Simple and sweet, totally a surprise. It was unreal. And we have it all on video - including my cursing!!

Needless to say it was hard to ski down the mountain afterwards - I was all shaky!

At the stroke of midnight on January 1, 2002. John had made a 4 foot sign, using rope light that spelled out 'will you marry me' when the ball fell, his brother in law flicked the switch on the sign (which was in the backyard)

Re: How were you proposed to?

In miami (our favorite place) labor day weekend, on the rooftop of our hotel (the hotel had a sun deck on the top of the hotel with chairs and a big hammock) we were laying in the hammock just talking after we went to romantic dinner....and the rest is history. All I have to say (I'm sure you all agree) the emotions that ran threw me the moment right before when you know its gonna happen is inexplicable...

Re: How were you proposed to?

I kind of knew it was coming, but.....
2 Sundays before Xmas, Fh had to work. He took FOREVER coming home, and I was starting to worry because he is never late and the weather was bad. But I figured he would have called if something was wrong. So as I was sitting on the bed wrapping presents, he came home. I took one look at him and I KNEW what he was going to say. He got down on one knee, and popped the question, and when I saw the ring I just laughed hysterically for the longest time!
