How will you address in-laws?

How will you address in-laws?

I'm just curious - will you call your inlaws mom and dad or by their first names. In my family, it's tradition that inlaws are called mom and dad, but I'm not sure how common it is these days.

Your feedback and opinions are appreciated. Thanks!

FH and I have been together for 10 years so for all this time I've been calling his mom by her first name. So, no point in changing that up in my opinion. But that's just me!

I honestly don't know. I don't even address them now, I just say hello. I know that's bad. My FH calls my mom by her first name and he calls my dad Sir, lol. FH is Indian, so I have to be careful what I call them; it can get crazy if you refer to someone by the wrong title in his family.

I call my FMIL by her first name. However, I used to call my ex's parents mom & dad. I'm just not that close to my FMIL since she lives in FL.

You know, it's funny. I've been having this discussion recently with FH and apparently FBIL brought this up to FIL's the other night.

After 9 years, I still call them Mr. & Mrs. X. I have no idea how the transition is going to go. FBIL says I will never be able to call them by their first names (they're weird like that), and I'm going to go straight from Mr. & Mrs. to mom and dad. I told FBIL that until they make the initiative, I will continue to call them Mr. & Mrs.

I wish I didn't have to address her as anything, but FMIL insists that I call her and FFIL by their first names. I find it really awkward, but that's how she wants it, so that's what I call them!

I was just talking to my own parents about this the other day....and I was going to post the same question!

In my culture calling older people by their first name is a big no no..so I call my FH's parents Mr. and Mrs. Traditionally Iin my culture I should call them mom and dad after we get married but I dont feel comfortable doing that , it is strange to me. Equally strange to call them mr and mrs. i guess so maybe I will force myself to start calling them mom and dad after we get married.

He calls my parents by their first name.. which makes me cringe lol. He is Italian-- which is not what my background is, but I would think it would be similar in his culture i.e. calling someone mom and dad or some sort of title rather than first names?

my FMIL brought it up awhile ago, she said, you don't really want to call me mom, you already have a mom.
in my family that's what everyone calls their in laws...it came up in conversation with FH and he said, too bad! call her mom

I'll probably continue to call them by their first names until they tell me I should call them 'Mom' and 'Dad'....if they ever do haha

They have been Mommy & Papa to me since FH & I have been together

I will never call FIL by 'Dad' he's too much of a pr!ck. MIL already signs things to me by 'Mom' so I guess that's her way of saying I should be calling her that.

My parents want DH to call them Mom and Dad, but he hasn't gotten used to that yet.

I agree. We are both from the same culture and address each other parents as Mr. and Mrs. So I am not sure what will happen when we get married. I know I will not and cannot call them by their first names even when married.

I used to just NOT call them anything... just like, 'Hey there... you!'
I don't feel comfy calling by first names, but I suppose it will be mom and dad after we get married. Sometimes I call them FMIL and FFIL! HA HA!!!!
