How would you. . .?

Original post by klanghan

How would you handle someone who keeps hinting that they want to come to your wedding and isn't really a friend?

I know 'Beth' through 'Brianna.' Beth is barely an acquaintence. Last night we were at Brianna's house for a BBQ and Beth was asking my all these wedding questions and kept making comments like 'we are going to have so much fun at your wedding,' and 'I can't wait for your bachlorette party,' etc. Ummm, she wouldn't even make it on my B-list for invites. I only talk to her when we are at brianna's house, struck me as odd, wondering your opinions.

Besides her, people i haven't talked to in years now keep calling me! One in particular I worked very hard at getting her out of my life, and now she's back!!

Is anyone else having problems like these??

i am seriously amazing at people's rudeness! the girl that i work with- about 2 days after i announced our engagement was like i better be invited...

like who says that! i didnt want to be rude so i let it pass. but in your case- i would definately ask brianna to talk to beth

thats so annoying!! one girl i used to be friends w/ in highschool.... i imed her to tell her i was engaged, the FIRST thing she said ' can i be invited to the wedding' not congrats... or anything, shes very insecure! and no she is not invited, i havent talked to her since

i guess just kind of ignore it and when they dont get the invite they'll stop bothering you ahha

I know its annoying and I should ignore it, I was really wondering how often this happens to other people.
Also, i am a teacher so hardly anyone knows about my engagement from work since I haven't seen them yet. (I was thinking about using the phone chain. . .lol ) And i have a feeling this will happen more often there, so i wanted input before hand.

Thanks everyone

I actually had a guy from work, that I am not friendly with ask me if he was invited.

When I told him no we are limited in space and are only inviting are family and close friends he told me that if money was a problem I could always open my envelopes at the end of the evening to pay for everything.

I had to laugh at him! How over the top could you be!

YES. There is a woman I work with who keeps hinting she wants to come. I just smile and don't say anything. My FH says I sould tell her, 'I can't wait to show you pictures from it' ;) I don't hav ethe nerve though. So I just keep smileing but NO WAY is she getting an invite!

We had a few of these, and handled them differently depending on the person.

FH had a situation similar to yours. He just kept ignoring the comments, and we just never sent an invitation.

I had my coworkers commenting on it, and I just said 'you're not invited,' but only because we have that kind of relationship where I can say that and then we'll all joke about it. It even got to the point that when my boss told me he was moving back to London I said 'oh, well now I can invite you to the wedding ... just send a gift,' but obviously joking with him and he knows that.

I think it's a delicate situation and you have to take your relationship and the type of person they are into account ... have your common friend gently break it if you are really uncomfortable.

Good luck!

UGH people are so tacky!!!!! At my old job as soon as everyone found out I was engaged the only people that were rude enough to say 'I better be invited to your wedding!' Are the only ones not invited! It just worked out that way, that I guess the people who would never imagine saying something like that are the people I remained close with and the tacky losers I cut my ties with...

I would ignore them. They should get the picture. Especially when they dont get the invite.

When they say things like that, either just laugh it off or say you havent finalized the guest list yet.

I hate that. I bumped into a girl I used to work with for like 2 weeks recently and she heard about my wedding through my my space page. And she was like, 'Im invited right?' I told her I wish I could invite everyone but my budget is so tight and that I would try. Be honest with her. I do find it strange though. I would never just assume I was invited to anyones wedding, especially if theyre just an acquaintance.

some of my old coworkers are like that but from what i hear 15-20 % dont show..So maybe keep her in mind for the B or C list.

I had this problem. Just ignore it. Pretend as if you didnt hear it. Thats what I did, people got the hint-yes its rude but the act of mentioning it is too

How do you just invite yourself to someone's wedding that you barely even know! That is so rude. I would be so embarrassed if I ever did something like that...

Why is it that the ones not invited are always the ones to say this?
