How would you describe these LI towns?

Original post by FuTuRe MrS MaZz

For those that actually know about the area... I've been reading msgboards that give mixed feelings for West Babylon and Lindenhurst. We originally were looking at North Babylon, but heard that the schools arent too great. Any feedback?

I grew up in West Babylon! It was great. My only advice would be to stay away from the 'numbered streets' that surround Wyandanch. South of Sunrise is all good. The neighborhoods surrounding the high school are safe...and the school district is really good as well. I wish I never moved!

thank you so much!

woah, listen to the copiague haters!

i am the product of copiague schools, and i turned out fine.
i will admit it is getting worse, but my sister and FSIL are currently there and its not gangland or whatever.

lindenhurst is ok, but i have my issues, but if you are from copiague, you just dont like lindy. it comes with the territory.

that being said, it isn't very diverse, which i really value and want for my children. but it is better than copiague or amityville.

Hey ,listen to what is being said about north babylon, you would think I lived in compton But on a serious note I agree with you, I grew up in a VERY bad neighborhood. When I tell people where Im from and they see all I have accomplished they give me one of these I guess they ASSUME you would take a different path based on a stereotype of a town. Diversity is a big thing for me also being that FH and I are both biracial, it was very important to us

what year did you graduate? I'm c/o 2002.
see, I came from brentwood... then went to st. johns then went to nb... so to me it was just.. high school. brentwood was a great grammar school.. DECENT middle school and (from what i hear and saw in summer school) was a SCARY high school.. north babylon was not like that at all.. yea there were fights, yes there was drugs, yes there are/were trouble makers.. but thats in every school... as for the towns themselves... even dix hills has its 'ghetto' area.

So, I went to schoool in NB and WB and knew a lot of people in Lindenhurst.
NB is def not a good school district. My sisters go there now and my Mom is always saying how bad the schools have gotten and how she wishes she could get my littlest sister (who is in 4th grade now) out of there especially before high school.

West Babylon is a good school district. I think the only thing it is lacking (or atleast it was when I went there) is diversity.

I have many more opinions on these areas- but I don't want to insult anyone so FM me if you want more info.

ETA: Keep in mind that I went to 3 different schools on LI for high school and 3 different elementary schools growing up. I know a lot about these places! I am not just going by what I hear.

FWIW

You could try greatschools.org or net or schooldigger.org or net to look up schools scores.

Greatschools has some parental reviews too.

FH and all of his friends went to North Babylon and they live/lived there. I have 3 friends who teach in N. Bab and I just bought a house there. There are some questionable areas...but mostly it's a great district. There are much worse districts.

This is like saying Bay Shore is a bad district because some parts of the neighborhood are full of crack heads...you have bad parts to every neighborhood!
