How would you feel?

How would you feel?

My FMIL called me a little bit ago to ask me what color wood I would like if I were to pick out a bedroom set. I told her and then when I hung up I didn't know if I should be angry or not. FH and I took his bedroom set when we moved in together, which happens to be his grandparents old set. Only thing is we don't have a bed frame and I wanted to wait until after the wedding to get one. It's just not a big deal to me. Now, if FMIL was asking me that because she wants to buy us a set, that is awfully nice and generous, especially since she is paying for the wedding. BUT, would you feel it's too personal a choice and wouldn't want someone else picking it out?

That's a toughie. It's a nice gift, but yes, it is a little personal since you'll have it for a long time.
Do you thing your or maybe FH can pull her aside and ask if that's what's she's planning and if maybe you can pick it out?

That was my mom's shower gift to me, our bedroom furniture and my FH and I went with my mom to pick it out together. If she wants to get you that than I think the 3 of you should pick it out together.

If that is what she has in mind it is very nice and generous of her. Though, I personally would not want anyone but FH and I picking out furniture for our home. I especially would not want someone else choosing something as personal as my bedroom set.

Yes it very nice, and generous of her, but if you are the least bit picky (I am VERY picky...LOL) than I would be upset.

Maybe suggest that you have seen some sets or show her some pics of ones that you like to give her an idea of what you would pick out??

I have very specific tastes and would not want anyone picking out something big like furniture without consulting with me first.

Feel her out to find out if she is paying for it or actually picking it out.

I think that it's REALLY nice of her to want to get you this as a gift, BUT BUT BUT I would 100% want to go with her (and FH) to pick it out!

Especially since, isn't this the same lady who decided what flowers you should have for your wedding without checking with you first????

it's a very nice gift offer from her--but i wouldn't like the idea of someone else picking it out without my or DH's opinion.

have your FH ask her about it, and see if he can hint to her that if she is buying that for you guys, maybe the two of you should go with her. (have him make it sound like that's what HE wants and that you didn't send him to do it)

That's tough. Of course she's just being a mom and trying to be nice and helpful. But of course you and your FH should be able to choose your own furniture for your home together. What she should do if she really wants to help and also wants you to be happy is give you and your FH money or a gift card so you can pick out which set you like best.

I would definitely want to pick out my own set! it's something you have to live with everyday!!! It's very generous of her and I'm sure if you just talked to her or showed her what you like she would work with you...

If I told my FMIL the exact color and look I was going for, I would def let her. I WISH!!

Show her a picture of a set that you and fh love.
