how would you feel??

Original post by christine2010

I have been so upset since Saturday night. I had my b-party this weekend & one of my friends who I invited said she couldn't come because she had no money. Mind you, she is married & when it was her b-party I went to all of the festivites & spent about $500. At the time I was a full time student & working part time. After she said no because she is 'broke' another friend of ours offered to cover her for the night & she still refused.
While sitting at dinner Saturday night, I went on facebook to update my status & her status was: 'headin out for a night with Good Friends.'
I am so upset. She obviously lied to me. If she had plans she could have just said, I have prior plans instead of saying she is 'broke.'

(BTW: dinner came out to $65 per peron)

Would you be hurt if this happened to you??
Would you say something to her about it???

Honestly, I wouldn't jump to conclusions.

Just because someone said they went out with good friends doesn't mean she had to spend $ and doesn't mean she lied to you. If I couldn't go to a friends bparty cuz I had no $ that doesn't mean I was going to sit home all night and not do anything. I would probably still go out. But going out could be sitting at someone's house watching tv. I can also understand her saying no to your friend offering to cover her for the night. Some people just aren't comfortable accepting $ like that, me being one of them.

I wouldn't say anything b/c your just going on assumptions and nothing can come of it. It can't change the fact that she wasn't there and went out that night.

We confirmed that she went out. My other friend, T had her husband call this girls husband to see if he wanted to 'hang out' since T was out with me. The girls husband said, 'Nah, not tonight I am watching the baby because wife is out with so & so at such & such bar.'

I dunno, again... cuz she went out to a bar doesn't mean she was dropping a lot of $. I feel like saying someone to her is just pointless cuz it can't change anything. Your gonna say how you feel and she's going to say she didn't spend much $ and it's just going to be a round about conversation that's not worth it.

AHHH! Busted! I can't believe a 'friend' would do that! I dunno, does she have drama with anyone in your group that would make her not want to come??

My first instinct was maybe her husband gave her grief with going to a bachelorette party since some men do that and she was too embarrased to say that was the reason. But obviously he is cool with her going to a bar with friends which is basically the same thing.

Yikes, . Are you going to confront her??

Honestly with the wedding being this week, I really don't need the added stress of an argument with her.
Will I say something after?? Maybe, maybe not.
Will I have the same friendship with her after she lied to me?? No. I will stop running our of my way to help her & I will stop offering to help with her daughter when she has no one else to trun to.

If she's a really good friend, she should not have felt the need to offer that excuse...good friends look after eachother in those situations. It seems like she just didn't want to be there for another reason, maybe another person's company at the b-party. Not worth getting stresses over right before the wedding. Focus on YOU right now. Your day deserves your full undivided attention!

well if it was because she had no money i could understand why she couldnt go but, if she blatantly lied about it when she went out w/ other people then i would be mad.

It's rude and it's stupid. I mean hello, don't get caught if you lie. geez.

Honestly, don't let this get to you. I know we go out of our way for some people and don't get the same in return. Just know what kind of friend she is and move on.

Re: how would you feel??

that really awful. I would just de-friend her on Facebook. No explanation, no bi**chy comment, nothing, NADA.

I'd just push that 'defriend' button and leave it at that. No friend that lies to you should have the honor of calling you their friend.

I think this is a smart move. Didn't realize you are getting married so soon! How exciting and congrats!!!

I have cut out 'friends' that are shady like this. Life is too short to allocate your time to people that s u c k!!!

Um, that is just WRONG. I'd probably be tempted to tell her to save her money and not bother showing up at the wedding. And *** is wrong with people??? WHY did she feel the need to post that on FB when she knew you'd probably see it? It seems like she's just flaunting it more that she blew off the B party. You have every right to be mad, hurt, etc. I understand if you want to wait until after the wedding, but I'd ABSOLUTELY say something. Sorry you have to deal with such classless people
