how would you feel about this???

Original post by krislee316

I was talking with FH and he told me FFIL wants to be different and 'stand out' at the wedding so he will be wearing a white tuxedo jacket Needless to say I was not happy but how do I handle this situation tactfully and not bridezillaish

your FH should approach him about it. Maybe FFIL isn't as familiar with the etiquette; that the bride is the only one who should wear white. Also, a white dinner jacket is usually only worn for black tie weddings (I think). This is from wiki pedia

The white dinner jacket is often worn in warm climates. It is usually ivory in colour rather than pure white, and does not have silk-faced lapels. It is worn with exactly the same clothes as a normal jacket, except for the most formal variations (such as a winged collar). In the U.S. and Canada a white dinner jacket is traditionally worn only from Memorial Day in the spring to Labor Day. (This rule applies also to white summer clothes, including shoes and suits.) In the UK, the traditional rule is that white dinner jackets are never worn, even on the hottest day of summer, but are reserved for wear abroad.[3] Some exceptions to these rules are, in America, its use in high-school proms., and in Britain some concerts, famously for instance the Last Night. In other tropical climates, such as in Imperial Burma, the less formal colour was desert fawn.

As long as it is not Miami Vice or John Travolta-ish, it could possibly look handsome.

If you truly have a problem, Honesty is the best policy. it is just a matter of trying to be as tactful as possible

Something like this doesnt look too bad :

that looks hot but FFIL does NOT look like that

it would only be appropriate for the groom to wear a white coat, NOT THE FFIL!
I would tell him nicely that only you will be wearing white that day, and that's the end of it. And then, suggest a different flower like everyone is saying.

ARE YOU SURE THEY'RE NOT JOKING WITH YOU?????

I dont think its a big deal. It wont take away from you at all.
I think if the father of the groom wants to wear a white tux jacket on the day of his sons wedding to make himself feel a little special than so be it...

I wasnt there for the convo because if I was I would have said NO right then and there but I dont think they are joking because Fh and I have talked about it like 3 times and he seems to think it is not a big deal.

Another ccrazy thing about FFIL..... when we first got engaged we were all talking about our HM and FFIL was like oh if you go to Hawaii you can probably stay with Cousin so and so and I was like no we will be on our HM then a few min later he was like oh you can go to Cali and stay with Uncle so and so I was like HELLLLLLOOOOO we will be on our HM we are not STAYING with anybody

Maybe he just doesnt get it IDK but I will keep y'all posted on what happens lol

Ok, I am going to be the 'bad' one here...

If you look through my parents wedding album you will notice my grandfather (mother's father) wearing black tuxedo pants and a white tux jacket. He looked so handsome. What's the big deal? Because it's white? So what! But then again, I don't think my grandfather wore it to 'stand out'. I think he just wore it because he knew he'd look good. The groomsmen wore tan/light beige tux's (this was 1981). So... I dunno. I have no objections. But... then again since it's FFIL then maybe I would. If it was my own father though.... the father of the bride, then so what. Hmm... sorry....
