So, a couple that is in our bridal party lives in VA. They have a 13 month old and have never been away from the boy for more than a few hours. At first they were going to bring him to the wedding. Then they were going to leave him with his grandparents at home. Now the plan is that our BM and GM are going to leave our reception an hour or two early so they can get back home.
I am not a parent so I don't know what it's like to leave a child for a long period of time. So we don't see where they are coming from.
They didn't have a big wedding. No bridal party or anything. It was a backyard bbq. So they don't see where we are coming from.
So, they are going to leave home at 4am Friday, go to the rehearsal that night. Wedding is the next day and then leave around 10 or 11 to get back home around 6am Sunday. Is that crazy?
Oh and because of this, the guy that was going to carpool with them isn't coming now.
Why? WHY? With only 17 days left do they decide on this??!!

Re: How would you feel if your BM/GM left early?
Honestly. . I TOTALLY get why you would be freaking out and it's al\ways disspointing to have the people in your party not be entirely there for you but an hour before you won't even care. . you will be towards the end of the party. . so happy, tired, exhilarated that you won't even see them go unless they were going to be the ones to help you out with getting everything out of there. .
and if they are those never been away parents TO THEM it probably seems like a long time away. . it does stink that it's making the other guy not make it. . there's no way around that!
sorry you are dealing with this last minute and I hope it's the last of your guest issues. .

Re: How would you feel if your BM/GM left early?
ok here is my take..... my pos MOH and her nasty pos bf decided to leave 45 min early since he didn't like the cake (witch was absolutly delish btw) and did't think her prime rib was well done because it was still pink(hellooooooooooo it's prime rib people not steak !!!!!!!!!) what ghetto trash she became but anyway back to the story at hand...... since they were getting up and leaving every one else assumed it was time to go as well. so basically my wedding ended 45 min early becaust the pos bf is ghetto trash and the 4 dinners he ate weren't good enough for his mcdonalds eating asssssssssssssss
so moral of the story if bridal party is leaving the rest of the guests will think the party is over so make sure there is some kind of announcement made so the rest of the guests don't think it's over early.

I think its normal. One of the GM has a child and I am sure him and his wife will be leaving early. You will still have other guests there, so dont worry.

Re: How would you feel if your BM/GM left early?
We have the situation but it's a little bit different. The GM who is leaving early is leaving because he and his wife are leaving on vacation very early the next morning.
Unfortunately, we can't control what other people do. It's frustrating, but there's nothing that can be done about it.
I am annoyed that they are leaving early, but in the end, we're not going to miss 2 people at that point.
I'm sorry you are dealing with this so close to your wedding day though.

i would kinda be annoyed!! because honestly what is 2 more hours!! the baby is 13 months old!!and will be perfectly fine with a babysitter or family watching him!! my brother and sister in law are leaving their 3 month old for the night! im not a parent either!! but i do know a baby is a lot of work and they should be excited about the night off!

I definitely understand why you are upset, but I tend to be a person that looks for the positive side of things. It seems like they are making a big effort to be there for you, despite being uncomfortable with leaving their son. Like you said, they don't understand the big deal in leaving a bit early. I would try to be happy that they will be there for your rehearsal, ceremony, pictures, and the first part of your reception. Once they are at the reception, they may decide to stay an extra hour or two. If not, I wouldn't let it ruin your day even if it leaves you a bit hurt.

I would be upset as well... but at the same time glad they came at all. They do live far and have a baby.. so its no longer that easy for them to hop in the car and be gone all weekend. I agree with you that I wouldn't want them to leave early.. but if it is what they had to do to make it work then I would be ok with it.

I would probably be a bit disappointed initially....but they are driving a LOOOONG way to share this special time with me and that's what matters. The world does not revolve around me or my wedding.

I'd be kind of upset too. I know it's hard when you have kids but honestly, two of my bm's have little children, one of the girls has two one is 3 and the other is not even going to be a year at the time the wedding comes, she, her husband and their children live in Florida. She is coming in the Monday prior to the wedding to help me with last minute stuff and just to spend time together and her husband and children are coming in on Thurs. morning in time for the RD. Her children will be staying in the hotel that I booked my room block (right next door to the RH) with a babysitter (my other bm's daughter will be staying with them as well) while her and her husband are at the wedding. Then they will all go home the day after the wedding, Sunday night together. I love my friend for doing this, I wouldn't have asked her to do this, but I feel like she knows that when you commit to being in a bridal party you are expected to be there for the WEDDING!!! Sorry, but I'd be upset too!

I think it's best to think about the things we DO get on our wedding day rather than the things we don't get... don't let things that are out of your control spoil your fun!

honestly, its okay. nothing really happens the last couple of hours at your reception that your BP really has to attend except the garter/bok toss, and since they are married they wouldnt participate anyway. I wouldnt be upset about it. some of my BP left after the cake cutting and I didnt even notice!

One of my BM is leaving the reception early. Her cousin is getting married the same day I am so she going to try and catch the end of their wedding. I understand the situation so it doesnt bother me.

Can they bring him? Did you not want that, or did they not want to?
I understand you being upset, but I don't think there's anything you can do...... the day of I don't think you will mind though so try not to stress!!

I agree as well! As much as you may feel disappointed, just enjoy the time you will spend with them! As a BM I've had to leave weddings early before for various reasons - it is what it is.
