HOW WOULD YOU HANDLE A NEIGHBOR WITH A BARKING DOG

day in and day out this dog is barking and barking and is obviously being kept outside. and to top it off, its not a 'big' dog bark but rather an annoying yelping dog. i really dont know what to do. i come home from work and i hear him/her, i get up in the morning and i STILL hear him/her. Im not even sure which house it is but it sounds like its coming from across the street and around the block. while i do not want to get someone in trouble, i really really really cannot stand listening to his poor dog barking ALL THE TIME.. What would u do????

unless the dog has some sort of shelter from the weather...I believe that its illegal to keep the dog outside....if you can find out who's dog it is and check to see if there is a dog house. If there isn't...I believe that you can call the county animal control....they would go to the house...and insist that the owner take the dog inside...if the owner cant do this...they will take the dog and find someone who can. Keeping a dog out all the time is cruel...but that is just my view.

the house next to me is a church. when i first moved in i thought having a church next to me would be nice. and that everyone would be cordial... but no. my neighbor and i hate each other. i like quiet but not to the extreme. my neighbor has a dog.. at one point they've had 3 and imagine all 3 rot whilers (sp?) barking off the top of their lungs! they're also outside at all times. it doesn't matter what the weather may be the dog(s) outside! and whenever a stranger walks by it's constantly barking. when the delivery man comes to deliver packages or food they have to yell to get the neighbor's attn because guess what.. they don't have a door bell. so w the delivery men yelling and the dog(s) barking - UGH! i've called the aspca on them and first of all the rep was very unpleasant but still... i figured they would do something about it. as i'm typing the dog's still barking. i need some advice also. my neighbor's are a bunch of god prayers but that's all a facade! i think it's a front for their car repair shop / dog reproducing farm house! ARGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know of a house just like this in Centereach....I hope they are not your neighbors...they are a holy nightmare...I think the only reason they call the house a church to to get tax breaks

My FH is a cop and he said that really the only thing you can do is call ASPCA....but if you can try to get pictures of the animals out in the rain....usually they react quicker if you can actually provide proof.

I think noise complaints go to the local police.

during a chilly day, i went out to the backyard (which has a clear view of the dogs) along w my landlord who regularly tends to her garden. she turns to me as she's holding a gardening hose and says 'watch.' she starts spraying the dogs! i'm like 'what are you doing?? they're freezing!' at mid sentence i begin to see everything very clearly. altho it was cold, the dogs ran to the water anyway. they were SO dehydrated! they licked each other's backs, legs, head just so they can get water! they licked the ground even though they there's sh1t and other dirt. my landlord says she does this practically every day. i also noticed an empty bowl with dried up old soil at teh bottom. my landlord sprays water in that bowl to the rim adn the dogs went wild! it was just a sorry sight. i felt so awful!

but you know what.. teh aspca did squat! they do have a shelter, altho it;s poorly built, they have one nonetheless. all they care about is having the dogs reproduce. they make me sick!

Re: HOW WOULD YOU HANDLE A NEIGHBOR WITH A BARKING DOG

I had this problem with the neighbor directly behind me. After I was fed up (dog out barking at 4am - called the cops), the second time I wrote a note on the computer:

'In consideration of your neighbors, please do not leave your barking dog outside. He and the rest of us would appreciate it. THank you. Your Neighbors'

No problems since then. And no retaliation because they don't know who left the note. And now they think perhaps a few of the neighbors feel the same way so ...the problem, in my case, has been solved.

Good luck!!
