Hi, Ilana. I just came home from Kohl's where I had a $10 off coupon for a $75 purchase which expired today. Part of what I bought was a house robe for FSD to give to Mike for Christmas. It was originally $70, but was on sale today for $42. Since she has been wanting to give Mike a house robe since Father's Day, I thought I should go ahead and pick it up while one could be found and it was on sale.
I had NO idea what the goal of this email was (mainly because I don't speak cryptic, passive aggressive FMIL) so I responded this way:
Thank you for letting me know and sorry I did not get back to you sooner. Would you like me to send you a check for $42? Hope you have had a good week and have a pleasant weekend ahead of you. :)
....this is what I got back:
No need to send a check.
So obviously she is pissed? I have NO idea...did I respond incorrectly??? What the heck response was she looking for?? I am so confused

Re: How would you interpret this??
was she expecting you to buy the robe from Skye instead of her? Maybe she was waiting for you to buy it all along?

Re: How would you interpret this??
I took it the way you did.
'Wanta to give me money?'
I'm not sure what she is thinking here...

i think that bc of the situation you have been in with them lately, you're reading too much into it. it just sounds like she had this coupon, knew fsd wanted to give fh a robe, she saw one, got it with the coupon for her to give to him for christmas and that's that. i think your response was perfect! it showed thanks, and offered to pay her back for what she spent after the coupon. i didn't get the impression she was mad or anything!

hmm.. I don't see a problem with her email. I think she was just informing you of what she bought and why she bought it. You offered $ which is fine, she denied.. and that's that.
imo at least.

That is my only problem with it...like...okay, thank you for telling me, but what is the purpose of telling me? If she just wanted to let me know...then write 'I just wanted to let you know so you don't buy him one as well'...or something!
Then again because of everything that's happened I'm probably reading more into things than I should...but...

Re: How would you interpret this??
I don’t see anything wrong with the 1st e-mail UNTIL I read the 2nd one, then it got me thinking if the 1st one is not so innocent as I thought. She “could’ve” said- oh, no I don’t want a check, I just wanted to let you know, blah blah blah. But to be so short like that, I don’t know
