how would you know if you had depression and what would you do??
Original post by nenna023
I have been dealing with this issue for a long time. I am just getting worse, the past 2 years I have seen a major difference and it is not due to planning the wedding ( just got engaged sept 04) I do not sleep at night. I fall asleep but I wake up about an hour later and repeat the same thing over and over. sleep for 30 minutes then wake up and toss and turn all night! I have bags under my eyes, i look horrible and i am tired and lazy through out the entire day. I'm unhappy at times and just dont know why. I get upset easily, im not the same with FH, he has seen the change to. It is affecting the happy person i used to be. I'm 22 and feel like crap. I have went to a doctor and complained about my fatigue and they didnt help me. Please five advise, i cant keep this up, im afraid of what might happen to my health

Let me just expand upon something Suemac said. Regarding not seeing a GP:
You should, in fact, see a GP. Any good therapist will ask that you have a full physical.
I am a firm believer that a GP should not be the one to prescribe anti depressants. I wholeheartedly believe that the only doctor who should prescribe and monitor anti depressants is a Psychiatrist.
Just as you wouldn't see a Nephrologist for something you should consult a Neurologist for, a GP is not the person to go to for psychotropic meds.
That is what I meant... I know a lot of doctors that are GP's and try to prescribe psych medications. It really is not in their scope of practice. A good GP would refer you to a psychologist but some will just try to hand you a prescription for an antidepressant. You need to be properly diagnosed.

I am so sorry to hear this. I think that you should really go speak with you doctor and tell him how you are feeling. You should also get a full blood workup. I was feeling that way a few months back. I just wanted to sleep all the time and do nothing. I hardly ate and I had bags under my eyes too. I would cry at the drop of a hat. On top of it all I felt like I had no one that I could talk to, and I kept everything in. I didn't want anyone to know how I was feeling. I have been feeling so much better now, but I was getting to the point that I think your at now. You may just need to just speak with an unbiased person, like a social worker or therapist. If you don't feel like doing that I would at least get your blood work. If you need to talk you can foward mail me. I would be more then happy to listen.

Thank you everyone! I can not believe how many people replied, it really means a lot to me. I did a full check up with my doctor a month ago and they couldn't find anything. I found a shrink that I was very comfy with but I only got to see her twice and this was a year ago b/c she did not take my insurance. I have hip/medicaid and have the book, problem is there are so many psychologists out there, and I would much rather be referred to one. I contacted the woman I had seen and she is seeing me monday and maybe together she will help me find one that accepts my coverage. Thank you so much, this was a wake up call and I will not live my life this way anymore! You ladies are really the best and I am forever thankful Christina

I saw a lady who was a CSW...couselor in social work ..there may be more of them on your plan than psychologists.
Good Luck!!

I agree. Many CSWs (now called LMSW) and mental health clinics take your insurance. Try to set up an appointment with one. If you are not comfortable with the therapist, you can always try someone else. I always let my clients know that if they are not comfortable with me or my style to let me know so that I can refer them to someone else. No matter who you see, you should do it soon.
