how would you know you're pregnant

how would you know you're pregnant

I AM NOT PREGNANT!

I am just wondering this. I am on the mini-pill (anybody on this?) and my doctor emphasized how important it was to take it within the same time frame every day. Because you CAN get pregnant when breastfeeding - she said it's a myth that you can't. But here is my question. In order to get pregnant, I would have to be getting a period, no? That said, how would you know if you were pregnant if you didnt' have your period to go by?

You have a good point. I don't know.
I guess the sore boobs and tiredness would be your signs although with a newborn I'm sure you're tired anyway.

Re: how would you know you're pregnant

(ok .. this is the second time I'm posting this response b/c my browser quit on me! )
anyway ...

I JUST asked my LC the same question!!!

She said ... as long as you are EXCLUSIVELY bf'ing ... no suplements, no vitamins, no water ... nothing .... its as good as being on the pill (about 98% effective) ...there's always a chance though! BUT as soon as you introduce something else, you're on your own .. anything can happen!

As far as ovulating and your period ... you don't necessarily have to get your period if you're ovulating ... you could be ovulating again already. BUT if you get your period, then you know you ovulated the last month.

As far as knowing you're pg ,She said that she was 4 months pg with her 3rd before she knew it (she had 6 children in all!) She had no ms ... so when she started having cravings & putting on weight, she took a HPT & whammo! POSITIIVE!

SO ... the moral of the story is ... if you don't want another baby right away ... BE CAREFUL!! and I wouldn't rely on Stacey's method either ... seems a little risky to me!!

I know someone who went through chemo and never got her period back. Her Dr's told her bio children were not in her future. Well she proved them wrong - Twice. Two healthy daughters later she still dosent get her period but I think she is a bit more cautious

oh christine - i gotta say this news does NOT put me at peace! Yes we have been careful, but I think we could always be a little MORE careful now that I think on it!

Now I supplement but don't skip feedings. I wonder if that matters. Oh well - whatever the case is, I guess I just have to watch for symptoms until I am done breastfeeding and can get back on the regular pill!

I got a Mirena IUD so we wouldn't have to worry about this.

Re: how would you know you're pregnant

jenny I thought I was remembering you saying that you were supplementing. According to my LC consultant, you are especially vulnerable when you start introducing other foods (or formula). You aren't producing the same amount of progesterone, (which keeps you from ovulating) & that's where the 'accident' can occur!

I would be VERY CAREFUL IF I WERE YOU!!

Re: how would you know you're pregnant

but isn't the mini-pill a birth control pill that should be effective if taken properly?

Re: how would you know you're pregnant

I am being pretty darn careful....but this still does concern me.

My doctor didnt' mention anything about the supplementing. Hm....I guess I'd better call and go over it.

Michele, I was told that if taken within the same time frame every day that it should be perfectly fine....
