OK girls... we priced out our dream honeymoon and it was alittle over our budget... We are going to Hawaii. Our orginal plan was 3 nights oahu, 3 nights kauai, 5 nights maui all at the hyatt resorts with ocean front rooms. Then we were going to stop in vegas on the way home for 3 nights and stay at the bellagio lake front. What would you do to drop the cost?

We aren't doing Oceanview rooms in Oahu. We are doing oceanview in Maui because we will be there the longest. We aren't going to Kauai. Also, you could change the hotel. It all depends on what you want.
Bellagio is also expensive. You could stay somewhere else for less.

Re: How would you save money on your HM
If it's just a little over budget and you can swing it, I say go for it--it's your honeymoon!!! If you can't swing the extra $ for it, I say prioritize what you're most looking forward to doing, and maybe try to figure out if you can do a part of it at a later time (for example, if it would be possible to do the Vegas part for your 1-year anniversary or something, it would be easier and cheaper than going to Hawaii, you know?)
Good luck with planning!!

Re: How would you save money on your HM
i would actually down grade ur rooms in hawaii and switch hotels in vegas. I've never been to hawaii, but i've been to vegas twice, and both times i barely spent anytime in the room. so to me a good room in vegas isn't important. if u do switch hotels make sure stay on the strip. i stayed at the tropicana the last time i went and it was great and REALLY cheap.

downgrading rooms is an easy way to cut corners. no one has to know you didn't have the BEST suites...you will have a wonderful time no matter what room you are in!

I would downgrade the room. You will be out and about and probably hardly ever in the room.

Bellagio is one of the most expensive hotels in Vegas. IMO if you truly need to cut costs, switch that hotel. I wouldn't downgrade any hotel in Hawaii, since that is bulk of the HM.

I said downgrade the rooms....we did this, and were able to afford the honeymoon to hawaii...I've been there before, and didn't miss not being on the ocean for the trip. Also, being honeymooners, the hotels sometimes upgrade you..you never know!

I love Vegas. I love the Bellagio. With that being said get the Heck out of the lake room. It is not worth it. I have been to Vegas 5 time for 6-8 days each time. Its like an adult disney land. Bellagio is my favorite hotel but and this is a big one it is not that much better than others, just more private. I like the luxor, monte carlo, venetian just as much. Don't go to the Rio b/c it is off the strip. Don't go to the tropicana because well eww. Compared to the others it is bottom of the line and for $10 more a night you can be at the luxor.

Spend less time in Maui and more in Kauai ( I liked Kauai better, too...AND it's cheaper.)
Also, the Hyatt in Kauai is AMAZING!!!! The Maui one isn't so hot. If I could do it over again, I probably would have booked the Westin.

I say switch hotels in vegas, or cut it out altogether and do it for an anniversary. I wouldn't downgrade the hotels in Hawaii. Although you may not be spending much time in the room (or at least looking out the window ) It is just so beautiful in the morning and at sunset or sunrise depending on which side you are on. Every morning my family and I sat on the balcony and had our coffee. It is just so relaxing and beautiful! Good Luck!!

Re: How would you save money on your HM
i would definitely downgrade for the vegas part... i think bellagio is like the most expensive hotel there, and since its not the main part of your honeymoon, it doesnt' matter so much. we were there in january and stayed at the MGM in the newly remodeled west wing room, and it was GREAT ! such a comfy bed, and a really cool TV built into the bathroom mirror- LOL we got a good deal on it, too. you could even just cut out the vegas part all together and wait and go later when you have a chance to save up money again...

Well, from the options you have - I would downgrade your rooms. You really don't need to stay in the honeymoon suites everywhere (not that I know if you are doing it, just an example) - really a standard room will be just fine. You are not going to be spending much time in the room anyway, IMO its not worth spending the extra money - you can save that money and do all the other things you want.

I would save on the Vegas trip. In my opinion Vegas is somewhere you can go some other time for a long weekend or something like that...

I totally agree! Your going to be too busy in your room to be looking at the ocean! Downgrade and have a wonderful trip!!

Re: How would you save money on your HM
I did the same trip as you, minus the Vegas. The Hyatts are all amazing. Definitely downgrade your rooms.
In Oahu I paid for a mountainview room and ended up getting an amazing room on the 31st floor. I had a spectacular city view.
In Maui I booked an Oceanfront room, but then I hated the room they gave me, so I upgraded to an Oceanfront for only $50 more a night. If I had orignally booked an oceanfront it would have been $200 more a night.
Then, saving the best for last in Kauai, I paid for an oceanfront room and they upgraded me for FREE to an oceanfront deluxe suite, which went for $1400/ a night.
Now, I'm not saying that this will all happen the same for you, BUT you never know.
BTW, the free breakfasts are amazing. They are delicious with beautiful scenery. You'll See!

Re: How would you save money on your HM
If you really want an amazing view and the nicest room then maybe for the 1st night in each hotel stay at the nicer room and then for the 2nd and 3rd night downgrade.
Personally if I needed to cut costs I would do something like that... or stay at that hotel for the 1st night and move to a cheeper hotel for the 2nd and 3rd. But you can still get the 'nicer ocean front room' for cheaper so you don't feel like you aren't on an island.
