Re: HPV Vaccine?
I already got my first two shots, I'm getting my last one in April. I haven't noticed any side effects. The shot is very painful, but that only last a few hours.

How old is too old?
you have to get it before the age of 27...and theres 3 sets of shots, that are a few months apart so keep that in mind
yup i'm 25 now and as long i start the vaccine with in the next few months i'll be under the age limit.
thats good then, definitely recommend anyone who is eligible for it to do it right away
do u know anyone who got the vaccine? and if they had any side effects? all i read on the website is it may cause pain in the area where administered, nauausa and dizzines. so if thats the worst that happens its not all that bad.
i got it last month.. and boy did it hurt my arse she was liek umm i need ur behind.. and im like r u kidding... i nearly fell over.. it was like a shot in ur arm when u feel the liquid go in, but it kinds stung me. she rubbed the area a little, put on a band-aid, and gave me some water bc i got real light headed... but other than that no bruise and i was fine an hour later.
they are 100$ each shot i believe (my insurance doesnt cover it so i paid about 110$ (10 for the visit) but in 4 months i will be done.
they recommended i do it, and my mom and FH said i should do it just to be safe and in the OK area.

I am too old. and there are still other forms of cervical cancer you can still get even though you got the vaccine.
it does not prevent cervical cancer - it prevents HPV that may lead to it
HPV is not the ONLY thing that can lead to cervical cancer, smoking and birth control plays a big part

Re: HPV Vaccine?
I remember when i was on birth control (never worked out for me just bled for days and get sick a lot) they gave me a shot on my butt too. I am kinda angry that I wasn't aware of the shoot earlier in life. I understand its not the only cause of cancer but anything helps and i find it frustrating after i just lost a friend last year to cervical cancer that i can't get the shot. I am 27 going on 28 in april and after my friend died at 34 leaving three kids and a husband behind scares me. IF YOUR YOUNG GET IT!!! That and do a check up yearly.. i have missed mine but will go this year .. messed up last year and forgot.
My fh's niece never went to a gyno and it baffles me that no one made her. My mother made me at fifteen go to one just to make sure I was okay.

Re: HPV Vaccine?
I've gotten the first round... no side effects (accept that the old bag that gave me the shot snagged a nerve and for a month my pinky and ring finger on the arm that she did the shot were numb ). I'm getting the sencond round in the beginning of March and the third 4 months after that.
You do it in three rounds like everyone says the 2nd one is 2 months after the first and the 3rd and final one is 4 months after the second.

That's so wierd... I got it in my arm... I guess its all dependant upon the dr/nurse. It hurts but no more than any other type of shot... you'll be fine. It's better than cancer... keep telling yourself that

Re: HPV Vaccine?
My gyno told me I should get it also. It is so expensive without insurance and you have to make sure you health insurance will cover it.

Re: HPV Vaccine?
Not to be nieve or anything but i see the commercials on TV all the time for HPV and read about it and isn't it more effective for girls that are not yet sexually active.
Isn't it true that its more effective when you are not already sexually active that is why they give the shots to girls as young as 9 yrs old? or at least that is what i read..... i guess i have to check with my doc before im too old for it.
Please FM me with any information...thanks!

Re: HPV Vaccine?
Believe it or not, my FH and I have not been intimate with anyone else before we met (we met young) so I never considered myself at risk for contracting HPV. Is anyone else in the same situation and was reccommended to get the vaccine anyways? This vaccine is new to me.

Re: HPV Vaccine?
My sister worked extensively on this drug - from a research standpoint. While I am too old to get it, she has no hesitations about recommending to anyone in the age bracket.

Re: HPV Vaccine?
i know everyone is saying there are no side effects, but this vaccine just came out, what if down the road there are side effects.
I could get it, but i do not want to be a guinea pig testing out a new vaccine the second it comes out on the market

Re: HPV Vaccine?
My doctor told me that they usually recommend it to women 25 and under. But she also said that if you plan to be with the same man and not 'stray' to anyone else, it's really not worth spending the money and going through the hassle of getting it. But of course she said it's totally up to you!!

Re: HPV Vaccine?
I figure that if your insurance company covers it, why not?
I'm too old, though. The reason they suggest you be under 27 is that HPV is an STD, very common and contagious, and they assume that by the time you're 27 you will have already been exposed to it. I guess by the time you're 27, you've been with at least one person (probably more!), and since 50%-75% of the population has it, those are pretty good odds you've already been exposed to it. If you already been exposed to it, the injection does not help.

HPV is not the only thing that leadss to Cervical Cancer, I'm negitive for HPV, yet I'm being treated for the later
