I think i am going to get it also. I am meeting with my dr in about a week and we will find out if I can, but I think that it is a good idea to get it.

Got no intention of using any new drugs. I used the patch for BC and it was recalled for causing strokes and blood clots, I also used Depro it was recalled for causing infertility. Dont get me wrong any drug has it's side effects. Just dont feel like being a guinea pig.

I agree, many drugs that women took in the past affected their children either at birth or later on in life. Not saying this is def the case there, but I'd like to see the long term effects of it first.

I agree.

Re: HPV Vaccine

I got the first shot and my mom freaked and told me that I shouldn't have. She said I should wait a few years and make sure it's safe. Now I'm thinking I shouldn't get the other two. I mean I already exposed myself to the vaccine, but I'm pretty sure without the other 2 my body will reject it, as it does with the hep b vaccine. I assume since they give this shot to children that it is safe, and my gyno assured me it was, but u never know. It's not like I'm sleeping around or my FH is...but I mean, he can HAVE it and not even know...u know?? AAAHH i'm so paranoid now!!

Don't worry, you're not paranoid. You're smart for looking in to it and getting feedback from other people.

so according to the CDC it's been tested in over 11,000 women over more than 5 yrs....I'm still paranoid tho!

HPV can cause cervical cancer. It has not been linked to OVARIAN cancer.

Afroddyt2000...
You are soooo right!!!! I knew it was Cervical cancer but since the actress spoke of having a hysterectomy, I thought it was ovarian. Thanks for clarifying....BTW, the actress' name is Marissa Jaret Winokur
Another correction: she wasn't on Today show! LOL...I'm all messed up. It was a while ago, I forget these things....anyway, here's the link to her interview:

random thought...i always thought it was weird that the word for having an ovary taken out is oophrectomy...sorry..brain fart!!

no she had her uterus removed....! that's the sad part!!!!

Re: HPV Vaccine

Yeah I just wanted to clarify since my maternal grandmother died of ovarian cancer so I'm really concerned with that and breast cancer since there's a link between those two (not sure exactly how but the BRAC tests for both of those types) and my mom had a potential scare years ago. All of these types of cancers (and all cancers in general) are scary.

ETA: I've heard of that actress before and seen her in a few tv shows and movies I think. I feel awful for her because if she had to have her uterus taken out not only can she not have children (at least not carry her own but maybe if she has her ovaries still she may be able to have a surrogate) but I think that forces the body into menopause! Menopause at under 30 is horrible. All those symptoms are so terrible.

BTW, have you heard about the new law on breast cancer? I heard a glimpse of it on Lifetime...Someone in (his) infinite wisdom wants to pass a law that will force women who have undergone a mastectomy to be released from the hospital in 48 hrs!!! Is that untrue or what?! sorry to get off topic...

most mastectomy patients actually go home the next day. Some go home 2 days later. It is a bit soon, but honestly they do well and the longer u stay in the hospital, the more likely u are to catch something!!!

Ladies, I think I have posted maybe 2 times on your boards, but please allow me to encourage you to take this shot with my story:

Back in January of 2001, I had a cone biopsy of my cervix and a combination laser vaporization and loop excision. My GYN did it at a day-op center after an earlier pap showed abnormal cells and a colposcopy concurred.

My pre-operative diagnosis was Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, or CIN. The major cause of CIN is infection with the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus (HPV). I don't know when I could have gotten it. It could have been an ex boyfriend for all I know. Most women don't know how they got it. What I DO know, is that had I not been diligent in my reproductive health and having that procedure, I could have developed cervical cancer years down the line. I am fine now but...it doesn't end there

That laser procedure left scarring, that scarring is making it impossible for my cervix to open enough for me to get pregnant naturally. It is a risk associated with the laser procedure. In order for me to have children, I will have to be artificially inseminated assuming of course that I can be dilated safely without causing undue stress to any other part of my body. I was told that the uterus can cramp up making it hard for implantation.

I can understand a fear of the unknown. I am living it now in a different way. But if I could spare anyone from developing HPV that may put them in my shoes someday, I would. So I am saying my peace.

Married women can get HPV from their husbands. Nobody is safe. If Gardasil was available 10 years ago, I would have taken it knowing what I know now, and maybe I wouldnt be terrified (whether unnecessarily or not) that I may not have kids at all. In my case, I was damned if I did and damned if I didnt. There simply was no choice.

Sorry to sound preachy. But it hits home. Take care of yourselves and your daughters.

Thanks.

Its ok. My physical health is fine. I am not sick, I get exams all the time. I have no choice but to move forward and I am being cared for by the best. The information is realtively new to me as I saw a new doctor yesterday after 9 months of TTC. I realized that if i didnt have this laser procedure, I may never be able to enjoy a child whether it was my own or adopted. But why would anyone want to risk that in the first place? Just my thoughts. Good luck ladies!

ETA:
DH and I are very hopeful that we will have children. We simply have to go through some stuff first. All of my other parts are in fine working order!
