I know there are a bunch of people in the HR field on the boards and was hoping to get your opinion.
I am currently looking for a job - I have degrees in Communication & English, but no HR experience. Do I have a shot at getting into HR? Maybe just as an HR assistant at first? Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Re: Human Resources!
I worked in hr for a few years before going backto school for teaching and I started off as an HR assistant and I only had a ba in sociology. I will warn you though in my experience it was hard to get in to recruiting I started out ( and stayed) doing payroll, benifits that kind of stuff. I would have loved to be the onewho intervoews people or even exit interviews.
Good Luck

Re: Human Resources!
I worked in HR for about 4 years as a HR Assistant. I had a degree in Criminal Justice. I loved the job, but not my boss, thats why I left. I think you could get into the field. Good luck

Re: Human Resources!
Check out this website: SHRM. It has job listings in the field. I have a Master's in HR, but found that the only jobs that did not require work experience in HR were HR Generalist positions. From what I saw and was offered, the starting salaries were around $30,000. I opted to stay doing what I am rather than take the pay cut. If you have any other questions, FM me...I was offered a couple positions aftering getting my Bachelor's, but again, very entry-level...

Re: Human Resources!
My FH works in HR and had no prior experience. His degree is in Music. He had a long term temp position at his currrent job. They liked him so much they made a position for him. He is going back to school in the fall. He does not have to, but he feels that it will help him with his upward climb within his company. Plus, they are helping to pay for it.

Re: Human Resources!
I started doing HR type stuff for my current company and liked it so they kept letting me do it (since there was no HR dept or person here). I decided to get my Masters in HR (BS is in social work) and I was recently promoted to HR Manager here. You just need to get your foot in the door somewhere and move up the ladder. Same as with most positions.

Re: Human Resources!
don't rule out applying to the big accounting firms either. they have large hr dept's & higher right out of school. i had to work with the hr departments on a project once and i never realized all the different facets there were; ie. recruiting, orientation, training, benefits, etc.
