Huntington Station

So what does anyone know about this area? seems more affordable then Naussea, but appears to be the beginning of Suffolk....

Re: Huntington Station

There are parts of Huntington Station you want to avoid -- mainly the parts near the train station. But, there are other parts that are just fine and some parts that are realy quite nice. I rent in Huntington Station right now and I like where we live. Just make sure you spend some time in the neighborhood before you buy.

There may be nice areas, but I'd be afraid to live so close to them. I know of two people whose houses were broken into there...while they were home!

Re: Huntington Station

But I Looooooooooooooooooove Huntington. Try the areas that are further from the train station.

the further from the train the better off you are..and definitely stay away from the numbered streets but other than that..the town is beautiful

Re: Huntington Station

My cousin lives off of Oakwood(by the school) and it is a really nice area, it only takes about 5 minutes to get to Hunt. Village too. I may have the street name wrong but I make a left off of Jericho to get to her house

i've lived in huntington station my whole life. i love it. there are many nice parts and some not so nice parts. stear clear of the train station. there is also south huntington which is south of jericho tpke, that is a very nice area.

not all of the numbered streets are bad. just like any place else you really need to know the areas.

Hunt. Sta. is in Suffolk right at the Nassau/Suffolk border. I grew up there. You really need to check into the neighborhoods. Some are really nice and some are very scary and it goes quite quickly from one to the other. Feel free to FM me if you have a question about a specific street - if I know it I'll let you know!

It is an hour by train just to Penn Station. Since I had another hour by subway from Penn to my job (upper east side), this was a killer for me. If you happen to work near Penn (or Wall St - there are some trains that go to Brooklyn and then it's a quick subway ride over to Manhatten), then it's not so bad.

If you have/are planning to have children, you should really check into the school district. South Huntington was an awesome school district when I was going through it, but I've heard it's gone downhill over the past few years (it's just a rumor though - don't take my word for it).

On the plus side it's not to far from northern state, the LIE, lots of shopping, the village area, etc. There is a lot around. good luck!

we drove up there this weekend. Yes around the train station is kinda dodgy but by Rt 25A it's really nice. Very cute town.

Be Careful in Huntington Station - best bet is to drive by the house in question and see for yourself if you like the area.
Huntington and Walt Whitman High Schools are not the best on LI but not the worst either.
Some parts of Huntington Station are in the Elwood School District. That's a great district to be in.

Thanx ladies....I'm a lil freaked out now, with so much bad so close to something nice, kinda creeps me out. I always like in no time it'll all get bad...

Re: Huntington Station

Look in South Huntington -- south of Jericho. From what I have seen these neighborhoods are nice and you are far from the train station and less desirable areas surrounding it. The Maplewood section is another good section.

If you want I can FM you the name of my realtor. We looked in Huntington Station and South Huntington and she only took us to good areas. She has been working in real estate in the area for a long time and really knows the area. Don't get scared. There are a lot of nice areas in Huntington Station.

Re: Huntington Station

many areas have nice areas near not so nice areas. dix hills is right near wyandanch and that is not the best. keep that in mind when you are looking. there are plenty of nice places in the area.

i'm from huntington and northport. south huntington can be really awesome! the numbered streets aren't that bad, honestly, just driving by, you can see the areas where people take care of their homes and those are the areas taht are good. hunt. station is a very family oriented place. it is just whitman h/s that can be rough.
