Hypnosis ... Random Question

Hypnosis ... Random Question

Have any of you guys ever seen a hypnosis to get hypnotized? Do you have any suggestions or recommendations on who to see? Do they actually work long term? Do they cost a lot of $$$?
I want to see one because I have a horrible phobia of dogs that I can't get over, and honestly I can't continue living life this way when every single household has a dog. I know this is stupid and embarrassing but I can't help it. Feel free to FM me with any referrals. Thanks!

My coworker did this to rid himself of smoking - he lives in central NJ, but if you want the info, I can definitely ask him for you.

He did say that the key to it was to be open-minded and trust that you could be changed. 'Course, if you're asking about it, then you're definitely open to the idea!

It semi-worked for me but it wasn't the hypnosis part that worked. I went my senior year of high school, I'd gained like 30 lbs following when I had mono and then I lost 60 but it wasn't because of the hypnosis, it was because of the nutrition class they gave you before hypnotizing you.

My sister used Self Hypnosis CD's to relieve her anxiety over the bar exam shortly after she finished law school. She used some program that can be ordered online from a company in California. She would listen to them at night about 45 minutes before bedtime. She swears it helped her pass the Bar exam and relaxed her during the exam.

I will ask her for the info if you are interested.

Personally, I don't believe hypnosis really works, but that's because I've studied it. AND you can only be hypnotized if you want to be. If you don't want to be and are resistant, you won't be.

Hypnosis isn't the stereotypical 'make me do things I normally wouldn't do.' Hypnosis in reality, is really just a state of ultimate relaxation and suggestion.

ETA: I honestly believe that if you're that petrified of dogs, you need to see a therapist about it. I think that will be your best bet.

That's what it was with me, they just relaxed us. We were still 'awake' they had us envision our indulgent foods and used creative visualization to try to turn our stomachs. It was completely different than I thought it would be at age seventeen.

Maybe you could try systematic desensitization? Its a cognitive therapy where they slowly expose you to your anxiety triggers until you are not afraid of them anymore...like baby steps.

My friend did this for needles...before she started she couldn't even be in the same room as a needle and now she can give herself a shot.
