I almost cried today

I have alittle girl in my class that refuses to speak in class. She talks and talks at home and we caught her a few times when she is alone with mommy but, she is soo head strong that she wouldnt speak to us well......
Yestarday afterschool I cught her talking with one of the afterschool teachers and was soo happy but, when she say me she stopped but, the other teacher got her talking again in front of me and all. I ended up dreaming last night that she was going to talk in school.
SHE DID!!!! I came in this morning and let me say she come out of her shell like it was nothing!!! I almost cried, she talked all day long and didnt hold back. I am soooo happy. I love this little girl.
Its funny too you'd thing it may take her alittle while to slowly come out of the shell but, no way, she was full force.
She went home with a shirt full of stickers!!!
Sorry just had to share that. In 11 yrs of teaching I never had a child that NEVER uttered one word to anyone..no teachers or other kids. Its amazing how some can really hold back.

Wow!! I have a little girl who sounds just like that in my acting class and I can really appreciate such a breakthrough!!! I've had a few experiences with her almost talking or sort of (miming/mouthing, singing with a group)

My FH's little cousin whos in 1st grade has the same problem as your student. The parents are aware of it and it's actually a diagnosed condition where she won’t speak, or at least rarely does in front of people besides her family. Even with me and the other extended family she doesnt really talk. The school is helping her by doing some therapy. They pull her out of class or during down time and a teacher sits with 3 students and basically has them do things to interact and learn the skills. I forget the name but it is a condition. Maybe this girl needs some help?

No she is fine, just really shy. Her mom was the sameway but, wouldnt talk to anyone. My little girls talks a storm just didnt to us. But today she was non-stop.

wow! most kids don't stop talking, like my nieces. but that's great that she broke out of her shell.

That is great news.

I think it is undiscover disorder or some form of Autisim. My sister did not talk from Kindergarden until after she enter High School. If I tell her teacher and the little friends she made never heard her say a word. She only talked at home to family. Eventually she made a friend and she would talk to her only. But the rest of her classmates she did not say one word. They would beg her to talk. When she enter HS she has changed show much. No you cannot get her to stop talking.
