I almost hit somone at Staples today.

Today was Teacher Appreciation Day. They were giving out canvas bag with a nice assortment of supplies. So here I am at the Staples in Jamaica, Queens and they gave me a hard time because I didn't have a school ID. I teach in a private psychiatric day treatment center. We don't have IDs or UFT cards. All I had was my Staples Teacher Rewards Card. You can only GET one of those with an ID, which, at the time that I got it, was a pay stub. That was how I got notification of the event in the mail in the first place. I brought that notification with me

The girl wouldn't give me a bag and told me to talk to her boss. I told her she could call her boss over to where SHE was because she was handing out bags to everyone else and I would be damned if I was FIRST to get there to have her give my bag to someone else. I said 'I have been teaching for 10 damn years. Just because I am not in a union doesn't mean I am not a teacher.' So she looked at me with disgust and gave me the bag.

I was so miffed that I went to 2 other Staples and said 'I came to get appreciated.' One guy, in Manhasset, offered to give me a hug. I almost took him up on it. He was adorable.

where do you work location wise. i think you deserve appreciation everyday
teachers should get more than a day of appreciation

idiots! when i got mine this morning they id'ed me up the wazoo! luckily i had an old pay stub on me and my nystce card and teacher rewards card....but the rewards card should be enough b/c u cant get it unless u are a teacher DUH!

I walked into the one in Garden City Park at about 3pm (way before it started)...walked up to the courtesy counter and said I would like a teacher appreciation bag and she just gave it to me...I was like here's my pay stub..she was like oh thats ok I don't need to see it!!

Then I went outside to the car where my FI was waiting outside in the car .... he was too embarrased to come in incase I was making a scene.

I then sent him inside to get one for himself (he's a teacher too)

Anyone could have gone in there and got one

I think that is wonderful that they had a special day for you. I appreciate all of you teachers EVERY day!

BTW- Did they mention when they are going to have Corporate America Marketing Managers Appreciation Day? It must be in October....
